Is eucalyptus oil safe to use in pregnancy?

Hi, have looked in a couple of books and on the net - there seems to be mixed messages on this. Does anyone know if it's ok for me to have a bath with eucalyptus oil in it/put a tissue under my pillow with eucalyptus oil on? Am 16 weeks pregnant and suffering from a cold (already used eucalyptus a bit but now wondering if it's ok).
I know you're meant to be able to take paracetemol while pregnant although I haven't yet.

Thanks popsycal
No mention of not using it in pregnancy there - though I have seen other sites which say it's probably best avoided. Hmmm...

on that page it does mention ones that should not be used - implies that it can be used?!?!

hewlettsdaughter · 09/11/2003 20:05

Good point! It certainly seems not to be one of the 'avoid at all costs' kind of ones.

i know what you mean tho,
i was paranoid when preg with ds - stopped using all my usual bubble baths for fear of hurting baby
next time I don;t think i will be so paranoid!

When I was studying, eucalyptus was not the one of the oils said to be contra-indicated in pregnancy but unfortunately different aromatherapists will say different things and books will often tell you to avoid an oil just to cover themselves. If you are worried I would say use the oil burner or drop on a tissue method

Thanks windmill - your comment about different aromatherapists and books is just the conclusion I had come to. I think I'll continue to use it, but sparingly.
