Anyone suffered from this?

Will call the dr in the am as have had it a week. My throat hurts every time I swallow and have white spots on my tongue the v back. Also my tongue feels lie it's been cut / burnt so v uncomfortable, hurts when I have sth hot / spicy / salty etc. Also v dry throat and tickly cough.

Dd (1) had it and still has a chesty cough three weeks on... Been to dr twice for her and they said just give it time.

hi,
i'm on the due august thread also. Don't know if its strep but i have same symtpoms as you describe. Been a week now with almost no sleep due to this cough and of course other than paracetamol and honey and lemon there is nothing i can take for it. Throat hurts from constant coughing and fed up with feeling ill and have a heap of things to do for Christmas. I think colds on average take 10-14 days to clear up, i remember a GP on TV saying people go to their doc far too early with coughs and colds, they need to allow more time for body to heal itself.Having said that i would take a child and being pregnant you need reassurance. I saw my GP to say i was pregnant yesterday and mentioned my bad cold. she said nothing about that. so you have my full sympathies. I know my partner feels sorry for me as he had similar cough recently and enthused over the cough medicine he took that got him off to sleep every night.

Thanks both, was hoping the doc may give antibiotics so have made appointment for 12 today. The worst is the tongue as it hurts to talk! Hope you both feel better soon.

thanks. An update- DP has said i need to see GP even if its just for reassurance so i'm going in later this morning. I'll post what she says later today as i suspect i won't need antibiotics but there must be something else i can do/take. Lets hope we all get better soon.

Good luck black cats! Btw can we take paracetamol in the first twelve weeks? Have just had strepsils so far (pharmacist said they're ok)

yes paracetamol in normal doses is ok in 1st trimester.

Well no infection for me so no antibiotics. GP said sadly there is very little you can take during pregnancy. She recommended steam inhalations (Vicks is fine) to help loosen mucus and to drink lots of fluids. She said strepsils in moderation were fine but not to take too many . She didn't specify what too many was but just said take things when you really have to. Boots sold me a Glycerin and blackcurrant linctus for dry coughs and glycerin throat pastilles, both totally safe in pregnancy. Had a throat pastille already which had a slight effect. will report tomorrow if the linctus did anything. I have some strepsils at home, think they work better than the pastilles.

just dreading another night of it : (

ladies - as a sufferer of recurrent strep throats - I thought I'd share a new remedy I'd heard of but haven't had one since I heard of it. Eat a spoonful of aloe vera gel, it's a natural anaesthetic (allegedly) so should calm down symptons, it's also safe in pregnancy. I hope it helps.
Steam inhalations with olbass oil or vicks vapour rub help alleviate things, although everything else streams instead but does give some respite to the throat.
I hope you all feel better soon.

Thanks olittle! Will try it out.

Blackcats, my gp also said no bacterial infection so no antibiotics but she did give me some random medicine to help my tongue in case I had a yeast infection?!

Hope it eases up soon for us all!

slept bit better. Linctus from Boots has a slight effect and i think psychologically is good to know you can take something. Cough has become more productive due to inhalation treatments. Hope everyone feels better soon. oh thanks for aloe vera tip.

Angel786 · 23/12/2011 14:04

Will try linctus, thxblackcat. Glad ure feeling better.

I've now got runny nose, sneezes etc and headaches. Didn't sleep much last night...
