I lost my appetite, and threw up what I did eat during the 1st trimester. Lost over a stone in total. It's pretty normal.

Do try to eat little and often, as opposed to large meals.

If you fancy something, have it -especially if you know it's likely to be all you want all day.

It does pass. Smile

I went off food but kept eating for the sake of it. I did go back to normal by week 16.

broccolitrees · 20/12/2011 18:17

dreadfully! and if i do fancy it, by the time i get to it, i've gone off the idea

FatherBartimas · 20/12/2011 18:20

For one week I was starving and ate non stop then from week 6 onwards I lost my appetite for many weeks, not helped by bad morning sickness...

I did try to eat little and regularly though and took pregnancy vitamins to make up for lack of food.

TeaMakesItBetter · 20/12/2011 18:25

Don't beat yourself up, there's nothing you can do to stop a mc - I had two -and then a pretty textbook pregnancy to (plus) term. Trying to do everything perfectly will drive you insane.

It's totally normal to not feel hungry, I was the same, had to force myself to eat a lot of the time and for many many evenings ate nothing but cereal and pringles for me it was all about the dry crunchy stuff. They're all fortified these days and you have them with milk so if you can manage cheerios or weetabix and a banana with a glass of orange juice you'll be doing well.

For what it's worth the cba to eat thing continued for a looong time and I still have to force myself to eat a lot of the time (baby is 10 months) I think pregnancy just does weird things to you.

kellzi · 20/12/2011 18:37

thanks Tea, i am 41 and really want this baby, i was all over the place after the mc, and held it together for my partner by showing i was strong, but wasnt not really, i have not told partner yet incase i mc again! what a mess

first 6 weeks of my pregnancy I ate loads but from wk 7-10 I barely ate anything as anything food/fluid that went in came back up quite quickly. since wk 10 (now 19wks) I'm eating very small meals and not a varity or healthy and dr and midwife are happy as i'm keeping most of it down.

I wouldn't worry too much but if concerned speak to midwife or GP

kellzi · 20/12/2011 18:45

horseynewmum, did you ride during your pregnancy?

FlangelinaBallerina · 20/12/2011 19:15

Kellzi, how far gone are you? I'm 8 weeks and for about the past 12 days have had a much smaller appetite than normal. When I'm hungry, it's painful and nauseating, but am only able to get fairly small portions down. Like Jambalaya, I prefer to eat little bits every hour or so. I find it helpful to not overface myself and have dainty things that it's easy to fancy, like grapes and apple slices (and Greggs!). My mum she was just the same, and she's had 4 kids!

horseynewmum · 20/12/2011 19:49

I last rode at 6 weeks cause I started to feel ill. By week 7 I was unable to do anyhting cause of HG so I had to give them up as I had them on share with the owner for 4 yrs. It was a hard and heartbreaking choice but i wasnt in position to keep it up

TeaMakesItBetter · 22/12/2011 17:02

Ooo sorry OP I disappeared.

No, I never didn't want to try again but we did say that if the third pregnancy didn't work out we'd give it a year to chill out and stop worrying/obsessing and get the tests etc.

The third time I fell pg though I wasn't going to tell him but he new the dates etc and asked and I couldn't lie. You might feel better if you tell your partner. Have you been for an early scan yet?

3inABIRDsnest · 22/12/2011 17:07

I'm 8 weeks and feel the same. I'm not bringing food up (although I do feel sick most of the time) but I'm really struggling to eat a healthy diet. It's mainly weetabix here at the moment!

I have been the same with all my pregnancies, and they have all turned out fine, so please don't associate it with mc.

justhayley · 23/12/2011 09:18

I had no appetite through most of trimester 1, and it wasn't to do with morning sickness as I didn't get any Smile I'm now 21 + 4 and my appetite still isn't back 100% but it's getting there. I wouldnt worry our bodies are smart they will tell us what we need when we need it Smile

Oeisha · 23/12/2011 10:22

36wks and still off food (have been since very early). You'll have to be disciplined and just EAT, and if you fail at that point, come back to something later. At least 3x a day, though as you get bigger, you might get indigestion so should graze.
I'm rarely hungry at all and rarely actually think "oooh, I could just eat a 'x'". Just nothing. But I do graze on fruit throughout the day...as that's what my LO would consistely make me throw up least during the MS stages (I was an evening puker).
Food shopping is bloody awkward when you just don't want anything, so plan ahead.
Oh and if you're feeling consistently shit after eating then it might be indigestion and gaviscon may become your new love... For me it was feeling very full for hours, MS came back and I occasionally felt like I had marbles in my throat.

ballroompink · 23/12/2011 12:17

I also lost my appetite during my first trimester but carried on eating as normal for the sake of it as I knew I should. I didn't have any MS so it wasn't being sick that was the problem - I just never felt hungry. My appetite came back as my second trimester arrived.
