Can't taste a thing...

And it's Christmas (sob). Everything tastes soapy/menthol.
My mouth is all de-sensitised like when you burn it, or you've used mouthwash. I can taste some hot food. Cold tastes like soap.

I'm all blocked up with what I assume is pregnancy rhinitis. I had this with my DD but I wasn't pregnant at christmas with her so it wasn't as traumatic. But waaahhhhhhhh I want to look forward to my christmas dinner and the treats and it all tastes of rubber. Sad

How far along are you? I had this for the first 12 - 14 weeks ish and I hated it! You have my sympathy, I love food especially at this time of year and it's awful when everything tastes so rubbish Sad

Tinkerisdead · 19/12/2011 17:42

Thats whats bad im 32 weeks so the end is a hairs breadth away so its torture. Had it at the start now its back. It feels like ive been bunged up and stuffy nosed so long my taste has disappeared. Wail. If i was 37 weeks i'd ask to be delivered in the name of christmas feast!!!!

Oh no Sad I'm not so sure I'd cope with that, I rejoiced when I got my taste buds back at about 14 weeks. I'm now 40 weeks and I genuinely would have been miserable if the tastelessness had comeback.

Fingers crossed it's a bug or some hormonal change that's doing it and that your taste buds will return to normal for the weekend.

I'm 25 weeks and lost my taste and smell at 6 weeks and still not back :-( constantly unable to breath at night cuz nose blocked, I just have to rely on textures but it dies suck at Christmas xxx

Tinkerisdead · 20/12/2011 06:48

Yes yes cant breathe at night. Keep waking up with cracked lips and a dry throat as i've slept gasping for air. Dh is usually in the spare bed saying he couldnt stand the snoring.

I can't breathe through my nose well either, I can't eat with my mouth closed and I dribble beyond belief at night too. I wake up with dry cracked lips where I'm sleeping with my mouth open and I get this awful headache when I walk outside from the top of my nose. I cannot wait to be able to breathe properly again!

Tinkerisdead · 20/12/2011 15:19

So your 40 weeks pixie? Get that baby out and let me know how soon you can breathe again!!

Hi all,

I’m really really hoping and praying you get a notification to this as I know you posted years ago but I’m at the end of my tether!
I lost my taste and smell at 13 weeks and am currently 33 weeks and still hasn’t returned Sad Somethings taste of chemical which could be similar to your soap type taste but other than that I taste and smell nothing! What with covid happening, midwives and ear nose and throat specialists just fob me off and you’re the only post I can find on the whole internet with similar symptoms! I’m so depressed worried about it not returning when baby arrives so I was hoping you could hopefully shed some positive light for me! Did your taste and smell return when baby arrived?
Thank you. X

@Leadust92

Hi, I’m almost the same as what you were saying. However, I had covid in October and my smell and taste came back. Then in Jan my smell and taste went again and now I’m left with the most awful taste and smell in my mouth. I haven’t had a proper meal since January due to all food just having no taste or a really horrible taste. I’ve been fobbed off by midwives etc but I’m really struggling with constant hunger. Did you your taste come back after pregnancy? I’m worried mine won’t come back.

Thankyou x.

@Loz2366
Ahh I’m so sorry you’re going through this too.
I’m afraid my taste and smell didn’t come back after the birth of my daughter. I’m now 14 months on and I do think it’s starting to return to an extent, I can get some flavours now if I really think about it and the odd smell, but still loads of things taste/smell distorted. I’m learning to live with ‘altered senses’ now I guess.. I have found if I keep eating something over the weeks it’s started to taste more normal. But I’m still way off normal and like I say most things still taste and smell different to how I know they should be so it can be quite disorienting and frustrating. I really hope yours returns fully and for good.

@loz2366 @leaddust92 I'm coming to see if your sense of taste came back now! I had COVID at the start of my pregnancy, lost all my sense of taste and smell and now I'm 30 weeks and I cannot taste anything properly, especially on a night time! Im so worried I'll never be able to taste chocolate again 😭😭thank you! Xx
