Rib Pain - Agony. Any top tips?

I posted previously about heartburn and rib pain. Went to hospital and turns out baby is pushing against my ribs on the ribs, meaning they are inflamed and painful. Dr says paracetamol and it will get better once baby is out. In 7 WEEKS.

Gah. It is excruciating to cough, laugh, sniff, blow my nose or move. What now? Even being on my side hurts.

What can I do to help it get better? Have tried yoga stretching exercises, baths and sort of pushing the little feet down. Nothing works for more than 10 minutes.

Am I condemned to a third trimester of walking gingerly and wincing every few minutes? Xmas Confused

You need to get your bp checked againas rib pain is a symptom of pre eclampsia. Do you have any headaches, visual disturbances or nausea?

I don't live in the UK so am at work right now and tears keep on springing to my eyes. Really need to sort myself out.

Thanks for the sympathy karatekimmi and julezboo - do you think I should go back to the doctor? Not sure what else they can do....

You should definitely go back to the doctor and get your bp checked.

TopazMortmain · 19/12/2011 06:18

Hi Luminescence my BP on Sat at the hospital was 100/60 and urine was clear. They also did an ultrasound scan of placenta which was fine and examined me (lots of prodding) which is why we have the rib diagnosis...

Make sure they give you iron, blood count and liver function blood tests

TopazMortmain · 19/12/2011 09:43

Thanks Luminescence - am back.

They did a scan of my gallbladder, liver and kidney, urine and blood pressure and all fine apart from the horrible pain. They gave me percocet and said to monitor the pain for 48 hours....

Getting into the taxi was fun...

Have you tried putting a heat pack, alternated with ice pack, on the affected area?
I do this though my rib pain is high, I think away from the baby. Not sure if you're allowed to do it on baby IYSWIM.
Hope the drugs work, you poor thing.
