At 29 weeks trying to get into the habit of doing them but finding it hard to remember. Friend says she does them while she brushes her teeth, other friend while stuck in traffic on the bus...any tips for remembering? Do you have any rituals? :)

Any time, anyplace, anywhere.. espesh good is when your having a wee, stop the flow hold 10 secs, sloowly release, same again, repeat til you've run out of urine.Xmas Grin.

No no no, not when you're having a wee. Confused You'll give yourself a UTI.
Just whenever you remember.

blackoutthexmaslights · 18/12/2011 18:14

Don't do them when having a wee but you could do them afterwards? I try to do the short hold ones after a wee and the long hold ones while brushing teeth, but I forget all the time. I am going to be incontinent after the birth...

ThePathanKhansWitch · 18/12/2011 19:33

Ooh i always do them having a wee, was told it was a good way to 'tell' if your holding properly and to learn to release slowly, i've never had a UTI, but i think i'll stop now. OP tek no notice of me, don't know what the fuck i'm on about Xmas Grin, in all seriousness i'd hate you to get an UTI.

I do them whenever I squat down for something e.g. putting harness on my dog, reaching for pair of boots or a hairbrush, putting something in the oven.

madmomma · 18/12/2011 19:44

I do mine whenever I cough and leak piss. I find it a timely reminder Wink

ThePathanKhansWitch · 18/12/2011 19:45

Ha! Madmomma i feel your pain.Smile

squeeze in back passage

squeeze in front passage

lift the middle bit and hold (imagine you're picking up a figure of 8)

do not do bigger breaths to do them as that means you're using the wrong muscles and you're PF are being activated incorrectly

when eating?

I am nearly 30 weeks and always find the time to do them whilst on MN. I am especially reminded when I read a good birth thread Grin

CGall · 19/12/2011 11:01

I try and remember to do them on the bus on way to work but never remember.
Friend suggested picking a sign or something you pass everyday and this would be the reminder to do them.

Oeisha · 19/12/2011 11:14

The doing it whilst weeing thing is a good way to tell you're engaging the right muscles, BUT should ONLY be done to check this and not as a course of routine, as it does lead to incomplete voiding of the bladder and thus the risk of infection.
One way to prompt is to have a red spot/sticker on your watch (or something you check frequently). Every time you check your watch the spot acts as a prompt to do them. Initially you'll need to be disciplined and pick a time of day, and stare at the spot whilst doing them. Then, you'll associate the spot with the exercises and thus the spot can act as a prompt.
