Hi - i'm nearly 24 weeks pregnant with #2.

Apart from protein in urine, what are the other symptoms of gestational diabetes?

AND - how is it caused exactly?

TIA X

Hi there- I'm 12weeks pregnant on my third child and had gestational diabetes carrying my youngest son two tears ago. I felt extremly tired, craved ice cubes and could eassily get through a large bag and still be thirsty, apart from that there were no obvoius signs that I had it. Sugar didn't even show up in any of my urine samples,it was only after the glucose tolerance test that I was diagnosed. I had to inject insulin four times a day fro that point on and chocolates were a no-no
! The main concern is large babies,my first son was born at 38 weeks and weighed 7lb2oz,my second son was also born at 38wks but was a whopping 9lb 3oz despite the insulin and a strict no sugar diet!! I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes on this baby and am injecting insululin-hopefully this will prevent a bigger baby this time.X.
