Breech at 36 weeks...

Hi Everyone,

I am 35+4 and my baby has been breech for weeks now. I have a scan booked for Tuesday to see if it is still breech (which i think it will be as the baby is big and i can't see how it could turn now even if it wanted to!) they said that they would book me in for an ecv (manual turning) but i'm really worried about it. Has anyone else had this done? Does it even work?

I really wanted a natural water birth but i have sort of resigned myself to the fact i will need a c-section. My due date is 17th of Jan, i'm wondering how soon they may deliver if the baby is already a good size?

And all of this happening over Christmas and New Year!! hehe! I just can't wait to meet my little bubba!

My DD was breech at 36 weeks

She turned after a session of reflexology

I went for my ECV and she was head down the next week

ECV can work but it depends - certainly not 100% I think around a 1 in 4 chance of working

Have a look at the spinning babies website for some tips on trying to turn a breech baby

Hey I'm 36 weeks too with a breech baby and just like you really wanted a natural water birth... stressful isn't it! I'm booked in for a scan on Thursday and have started doing moxibustion in the meantime to help move the baby between now and then. There's also lots of exercises you can do on the Spinning Babies website... not sure if any of this works, but it's worth a try! x

I had an ECV at 39 weeks and it worked a treat. Not as painful as I was expecting either.

SwanseaMum · 17/12/2011 17:59

I wouldn't have an ECV because i had horrific pgp and there was no way that I could have layed there while they did it. That was with ds2 i ended up having an emergency cs, the day after i had argued with the Dr about it ( my waters went at 36+5 days).

I am now having my 3rd I must be mad :)
good luck hun whatever you decide, but if you aren't happy bout it don't do it
