Nipples stinging so badly it's actually making me cry. WTF is this?

Am 37 weeks, it's not cold as the heating is on and I'm under a blanket but it is possibly the most painful thing I've ever felt including toothache and labour :(

Possibly Reynaulds syndrome? Does the painful nipple change colour to white/ blue? Google Reynaulds and see if it sounds like what you are experiencing. I have this while pregnant and it is extremely painful.

Could be, thanks. They did look white when I had a look a little while ago. Ugh, it's horrible.

Crikey! My nips get eye-wateringly sore and are occasionally very purple/blue or white (I also seem to have melasma on both breats, so difficult to tell colour), thought I've pout it down to me just being cold and having naturally low BP (though thinking about it the rest of me hasn't always felt that cold)...just thought it wa 'me'. Having just done a quick search, I notice it's linked to thyroid issues, which I'm forever being tested for (and come back as normal), Mum also has hyper-parathyroidism...interesting!
I hope you find some relief OP!

Me too.

I've always thought it was Raynaud's - I know my dad has it in his fingers etc.

I wear big fleeces in the house and huddle round a heater if it gets really bad. I had it in my last pg (worse than this time actually) but it went away after DS was born.

It is extremely nippy, eh!

Pomtastic · 16/12/2011 14:19

Poor you - it's really grim isn't it!

For instant relief: run a sink full of warm water and dip your nips

For longer relief around the house: dried rice in a plastic bag in a sock, microwaved until warm and then popped in your bra (is bliss)

Have heard that GP can prescribe a course of Nifedipine tablets to help long term too

I had this too. I never founf the cause but this worked for me: try putting some laninoh on them - its a lanolin gel that's great for breastfeeding too, and no bra but a very light thin cotton camisole or tshirt next to your skin.

Reallyusefulengine · 16/12/2011 14:21

This is bloody agony, you poor thing. I had it in my first pregnancy and once or twice breastfeeding. Have you tried having a hot bath or pressing a hot water bottle against them - I found that if you applied heat they thawed out and the pain went. I thought this was just me too, this is the 2nd thread that mentions the condition I have read this week.

Oeisha · 16/12/2011 14:31

LOL! I'm laughing at the thought of my already ample JJ cups (I assume I'll grow a bit with milk coming but not beyond a K, please god no) and THEN adding in some rice-socks! I'm gonna look peroper mental. Good tips though. Thank you.
Already have lansinoh packed in my hospital bag and another 2 tubes for backup!

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 16/12/2011 14:59

Right, hang on, so...

Lansinoh. I have that in my hospital bag...
Nip dipping Xmas Grin
Dried rice in a sock...I've got some of those Uncle Ben boil in the bag rices. Could I microwave one and put it in a sock?

Can't do the bath till DH gets home and stops DD climbing in with me! Mine are H's so don't know about the no bra thing...

I'm typing with my elbows over them to try to warm them...

Nip dipping is the only thing that worked for me - blissful coming in front work and dunking them in a nice sink full of warm water Xmas Grin.

Christ it really bloody hurts doesn't it - downside of being pregnant in winter :(

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 16/12/2011 15:20

I might give the nip dipping a go. Only trouble is, our kitchen window in front of the sink looks onto the neighbour's garden....

Too cold to get the lansinoh from the car, I fear that would exacerbate the problem!

Don't you have a bathroom? :o

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 16/12/2011 15:32
Xmas Blush

I'm not an exhibitionist, honestly
