39 weeks and an ongoing headache

Today is the 4th day I've had a constant headache. Paracetamol does help but the headache returns as soon as they start wearing off and of course I don't really want to be taking too many paracetamol.

My concern is that the headache could be a sign of something worse. I've requested a call back from my community midwife but just wondering if anyone has any experience of this.

Do you feel sick or dizzy or have any visual disturbances

Liskey · 14/12/2011 12:28

have your hands/feet swollen a lot? As this was my only sympton pf pre-ecampsia.

You do need to see your MW to get your blood pressure/urine tested.

See someone immediately and ensure they check your bp etc, do you have any swelling in feet/hands? Is this your first pg?
Can you go and see your CM?

sometimes a headache can be nothing, sometimes it can be a sign of PE - I expect that your mw will want to check your protein and bp.

Better to be safe than sorry - had it with my first pg, they decided to monitor me constantly but at home and then I was induced on day before due date. All headaches I think (from memory) need to be checked. good luck Smile

I do feel sick with it, no dizziness or visual issue. I'd probably think it was just a bit of a virus if I wasn't pregnant. My feet are pretty fat but not sure they are swollen, not sure what the difference is. I generally feel rough, tired, sweaty, hot, irritated but I am 39 weeks so possibly just being paranoid about what's normal and what's not. :(

No mw is every going to send you home or tell you off for visiting them and getting yourself checked out. If it is nothing it won't matter to them, they will however be cross if you do nothing and it is something iyswim Smile it really isn't going to hurt anyone to get you checked out.

Have you heard back from your cm?

pixie04 · 14/12/2011 12:35

midwife just called me back, have an app at 1pm and am taking in a urine sample so hopefully she'll give me the all clear :) fingers crossed

Your doing the right thing getting checked out - hope its all fine for you.

Sirzy · 14/12/2011 12:39

Glad you are getting seen. Hope all is ok

Luminescence · 14/12/2011 12:52

I think you are right to get checked out

pixie04 · 14/12/2011 14:46

My MW is really good, got seen really quick, blood pressure and urine checked and fine, did a full check up baby is ok. They think it may just be the change in hormones towards the end of the pregnancy but I'm on orders to monitor it and call them or the Day Assessment Unit if it gets worse or continues.

Good, see better to be checked than leave it, you now can have full confidence in your MW too! Enjoy the last week(s) xmas babe here we come!

There is a 'flu virus going around with a throbbing headache that feels like your brain is too big for your skull and nausea (you also get fever and chills though). I am just recovering from it and being 29 weeks pregnant could only have paracetamol which didn't even touch the headache really. I had the headache for 6 days and still have the nausea and fatigue after a week and a half. Get lots of rest and I hope you feel better soon.

Luminescence · 14/12/2011 17:01

Make sure you Google the symptoms of pre eclampsia and be aware.

pixie04 · 14/12/2011 17:20

ZhenTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly have you had the flu jab? I did so I'm hoping it's not a virus but of course the jab doesn't protect from all strains so you could be right.

Luminescence Thanks I will have a google.

Thanks to everyone for your replies :) X
