Obstetrician & Orthopaedic consultants – have to be in the same hospital?

Hi, this is my first post.

DH and I have just decided to TTC in the New Year (really excited). I have Spondylolithesis in my 5th lumbar vertebra so will also have to be under orthopeadic care through the pregnancy. Because of the spinal problems I will also have to have a c-section (ok with this though).

We're moving house in January and what will be our local hospital has an orthopaedic centre but no maternity service. Will I be able/ok to go to different hospitals or will I have to go to the ortho at whichever hospital I have the baby? I want to ask for the referral before we move as it can take a while to get the appointment and I ideally I'd like to be under ortho care before we conceive.

Does anyone have experience of being under the care of different specialists whilst pregnant? Does the communication & continuity of care work well? Do they ever actually get together in the same room to talk to you/each other or woudl I never see them at the same time (so where they are won't matter).

Thanks
