Scanning in scan photos

The hospital had dire warnings up when we were there today that the scan photos were likely to be ruined by being put on a scanner (ie in the office).

Has anyone tried this and is it true?

I can see how a hot laminator would ruin thermal paper, but don't see how a fairly cool scanner would...

I never even considered this when I photocopied mine and it was fine!

Think it depends on the type of printer the hopsital uses. If its one of those heat ones, like supermarkts use for the receipts, then a photocopier will make it black, if it uses ink then you will be ok.

With DS's scan pics I probably scanned them in using the big old photocopier scanner fax thing at work, this time I used our HP scanner / printer all in one thing at home and both were fine. But then our hospital never had any warnings up about it, so maybe it is to do with the sort of printer they use.

I've always scanned mine and they've been fine. It's the laminator they always tell you not to do.

We just took a picture with camera phone
