Just found out this moring that I won't get my first scan until week 15 and then my 1st antenatal appointment 3 days after this....am worried this is quite late, so i thought I would join mumsnet to find out if anyone can give me any advice!! so thank you in advance!

Its my first baby and I just want to know everything will be ok....I presummed I would get a scan at week 12?

24 weeks is the final cut off, yes, but in very extreme circumstances? But 15 weeks for Marie Stopes et al (or so I thought...plus it's balancing physical and mental distress, the longer you leave it).

Sorry, horrid thing to talk about.

OP, strop away. I was late finding out I was pregnant so didn't have my booking appt till 12 weeks and then was rushed in for scan the week after - all seemed very concerned!

You can actually terminate until term for abnormalities or if it's deemed to be detrimental to the mother's health but that's rare.

The bood test for Downs has to be done within 2 days of being 16 weeks, which is done on the dating scan. If you don't want this test then it isn't a problem, but be aware that if your dates do move by a week then you miss a screening test.

It isn't normal. My GP messed up the dates and I ended up with a scan appointment for 15+4 weeks, luckily the lady who answered the phone was very understanding and managed to change it to the proper date. Are you able to change hospitals or go private for the first scan?

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

What concerns me is your mention about periods. You think the scan will be 15 weeks - but said your penultimate period was a bit odd? Is it possible your last 'period' was actually an implantation bleed? Mine was: and that meant I was a few weeks further along than I thought. I'd be pushing for an earlier scan to get the dates sorted - or even, if you can afford it, go for a private scan.

Also re: booking in. That is a v late appt. If it can't be changed, make sure you take your Folic acid, possibly also a pregnancy multivitamin and check out the NHS website for foods/other things to avoid.

HTH.
