I'm about 5-6 weeks pregnant and i've got thrush Sad.
I know it's this as i've had it before so know the symptoms. I can't get a gp app. till next week and it's such an annoying problem.

Can i treat it with the pessary and cream over the counter without my gp i've used this treatment before so i know i'm ok with it but is it safe when pg?

I think those types of treatment are ok. I don't think you are supposed to take oral tablets for thrush. Maybe you could speak to the pharmacist or NHS direct just to be sure?

You can treat with internal pessary and cream yes. But as smk84 stated you cannot use oral thrush tablets during pregnancy.

However due to new licencing laws, the pharmacist will not give you the cream/pessary if you are pregnant so you need to pretend you are not

Thanks all. Will go to chemist and get some.

I got the pessary on prescription from my GP. She only advised in addition that I should use it without the applicator and just use a very clean finger to pop it in a small amount and then lie down!!!

Did the trick though, the external cream is really no good!

You can use the cream. Pharmacists usually won't give it out. If you're UK based, get a prescription of GP and then it's free anyway MatEX cards are wonderful! I had thrush for about 8 weeks in the end, it wasn't THAT bad, so kept treating with cream and hoping it would go...it didn't. Ended up needing to use the pessary, which I got prescribed, and had to insert without the applicator. It worked wonderfully. Swabs came back as high-vaginal thrush. The GP may well want to do swabs on you too, but maybe not.

And no, do not take the oral pill, and do not try and take the pessary orally (bless you MNer, wherever you are!).

Meanwhile, the following things may help:

  1. Use condoms with you partner (too late for the pg lol! but it will stop him repeatedly infecting you)
  2. Hot wash your pants in NON-BIO and hot iron the gussets...
  3. Don't use fabric conditioner on your pants, or combined detergents
  4. Eating narual bio-live yoghurt might help (upsets my stomach)
  5. Avoid body washes that are not gynea tested and don't use feminine deoderants/wipes etc.
  6. Same again with panytliners...avoid scented ones...
  7. Go commando wherever you can
  8. Avoid tights/tight jeans...you want to breathe down there.

If you do get given the pessary, don't be surprised too much if you get a little gushing of clear fluid the morning after...scared the shit out of me.
