Red blood then brown blood?

Posted on here saturday as I was unsure whether I'd had a miscarriage or not.

I'm 6-7 weeks. Had a sharp localised pain friday evening, later there was bright red blood, and more than just a bit of spotting. No further pains or cramps, nothing saturday or sunday, then just now there was brown blood.

Had another scan already booked at the EPU on the 19th, but they can't fit me in any earlier than this Friday 16th. They weren't particularly helpful on the phone either.

I've kind of accepted that it was a miscarriage but am of the what will be, will be, opinion. So I won't be going out of my mind with worry for the next few days.

But I kind of thought that it would have lasted longer than 3 hours and have involved more discomfort, or even a bit of period like cramping.

I know none of you will be able to tell me whether it was a mc or not, or what will happen next. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light?

So sorry to hear that you have to wait so long thats awful, I can only share my own experience

I had a bleed at 10 weeks, started with a very sharp pain in my stomach then I had red blood which lasted for about four hours, lots when I wiped but only just marked a sanitary towel and then quite quickly it went to brown and I had a brown discharge more than a true bleed for a fortnight

Im 22 weeks pregnant on friday, my bleed was due to a cervical abraision and my very lovely GP did an internal and confirmed that for me as the EPU didnt tell me anything really just that the baby was still alive

Fingers crossed for you, bleeding really isnt uncommon early on and in lots of cases it is something very simple

Thanks hothotpie

I did have an mmc in September, and so an ERPC? Wonder if that caused any problems.

Going to keep my fingers crossed, but with an eye on being prepared for bad news!

Oh and really glad things worked out for you!

sounds like a good way to approach it but the fact that you had a three hour bleed and nothing more is hopefully positive - were you passing clots?

toomuchtooyoung · 12/12/2011 15:43

Nothing obviously clot like, more bright red blood with the odd bit of something darker, but quite small

so that in itself is a bit more positive, when I went to the EPU she said that the time to worry was if I was passing large clots or bleeding for more than a fortnight - fingers crossed for you :)

Hmm, room for a bit of hope maybe!

Thanks hotpotpie

Could it be cyst bursting?

I've had two internal scans already in this pregnancy, would they have been able to see it then?

How do you get a cyst?
