I am sitting in the maternity triage unit now waiting to be seen. Stupidly fell down about 6 concrete steps outside, landing very heavily on my knees. I couldn't get up for a few minutes as I was very breathless. But just hurt my knees (very swollen and painful!), so should the baby be ok? I haven't felt any movements but then he isn't usually active at this time of day anyway.

You should be fine, i fell down a whole flight of steps in my last pg.Came down on my bum but hit the wall at the bottom head first. Baby was fine, i had some bruising. Baby is well padded.

It is good you are getting checked but your body is very well designed to protect the baby, so he will be absolutely fine I am sure. I had a minor car crash at 12 weeks, rang the midwife in a panic, and she wasn't even slightly concerned!

Are you ok mysecret ?

I bet you feel so shaken up.

I've actually felt better this time around about how well protected baby is after the poking around they've done during my scans - they don't hold back! I certainly don't feel worried about minor bumps/toddler feet and elbows. Your poor knees, though!

I hope everything's gone OK at your check up, and that you're sitting with your feet up being looked after.

Hi everyone, sorry for not updating sooner, my phone battery went flat and then we had to drive to visit a relative's new baby straight from the hospital - it's been a busy day!

As you all predicted, everything was fine. Had to wait for 2 hours during which time I felt the baby move, then they checked me over and all was fine. I was very shaken up though, more so than I'd expected.

Thanks for your lovely reassuring messages, mumsnet really is brilliant!
