I'm 16 weeks pregnant and just read online that beef such as steak has to be well done to reduce the risk of food borne infections. I've never heard this before. I hate well done beef and I have eaten loads of medium rare steaks!! It hasn't made me ill and I only ever use fresh meat from butchers. Anyone else heard this?

No, I was told meat like steak was OK a bit pink as long as I knew where it was coming from but that I must ensure pork, chicken etc. was well cooked.

The fun police used to say it wasn't okay but there's new guidelines saying that it's fine as long as the outside is cooked.

No! Steaks and joints are fine, as long as the outside is cooked.

Sorry, xposted, yes, this of course applied to beef cuts only.

Yes it needs to be well-done. And I was told that by French doctors Xmas Grin

Think its to protect against listeria. Which you're more vulnerable to get whilst pregnant.

anything and everything that you can catch bugs off needs to be sterilised Xmas Wink
just think of basic food hygiene and how/where you could catch nasty bugs off food then you'll be fine. how i missed runny eggs when i was pregnant, although i think mil served at least 2 puddings with raw eggs in while me and sil were pregnant.

For steaks/whole joints the NHS advice is that as long as the outside is properly cooked and seared, then it's fine for the middle to be pink.
