Right them - have had enough of the burning pains I keep getting between my shoulders (due to pregnancy, general stress and trying to lug a toddler about!). I am in desperate need of a proper massage (more of a sports one I guess rather than a beauty salon type one). Can anyone recommend anywhere in SW London (Putney would be ideal!!!)? Am 22 wks pg if that makes any difference.

thanks!

I'd talk to any local physios. They often have sports massage on site. I had sports massages throughout my first pregnancy (well, after the first trimester), and they really did help.

I did have a beauty salon type massage once in pregnancy, and they really didn't push hard enough. I think sports massage people are maybe more comfortable working on pregnant folks?

Dunno about Putney but Neals Yard in Battersea does preg massage
You need someone qualified in preg massage btw

there's a sports massage place at David Lloyd Raynes Park which I think you can use if not a member.

The Health Zone in the middle of Wimbledon (opposite Wimbledon Library) does very good massages, of all kinds. You should be able to get one in Putney, though!

The place on Lacy Road does a pregnancy massage but it is very wimpy (think it is called the Escape or something, next to Farrago opposite the Coat and Badge)

A better bet would be to go to an osteopath as no massage person will give you anything decent if you are pg. Try Clive Lathey or Colin Mahon 02087893881 (they have a clinic in Deodar Road and are both really fantastic osteopaths)

There is the new place, Physio4Life at the bottom end of Deodar Road by the river (is that the same place as CD mentions?). DH and I have both had some physio there and they are good - do lots of other body-related stuff there and seem very switched on. Agree re Escape not being much good. I don't think you have to be member of Holmes Place to have a massage

Thanks girls - Will try out Deodar Road (glad to know there are some other Putney locals on here!!!)!

There's a sports massage guy who works as Spiro (the chiropractic place on the High Street) on Fridays and he is fab - sorted out my dodgy shoulder from carrying DS. Not sure about the pregnancy aspect though -- I did get chiropractic treatments there when pregnant but the chiropractors are trained in that while I don't know about the massage guy.

I never realised there were so many Putney people here either.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/01/2006 12:50

The sports massage person I dealt with at my physio (in the City) did firm massage while I was pregnant. She wouldn't do my bump, but who wants their bump massaged?

She was also very good at working out new positions so I could have a proper full backrub, without lying on my belly.

I think she wouldn't do the first trimester, but after that, she was fine about massage during pregnancy. Realistically, your whole body doesn't change, so why would massaging the rest of it be a problem?

There is a masseur at Holmes Place in Putney who does pregnancy massage a few afternoons and evenings a week. Don't have to be a member. The "spa" bit there is called Re-Aqua.

tonton · 09/01/2006 13:42

Belgianbun - does Anita loos have a special bed or pillows for pregnant women?

Imafairygetmeoutofhere · 09/01/2006 14:37

Have managed to find a lady (through a Physio4Life recommendation) who is coming to my house on Friday evening to give me a massage - am happy to let you know how it goes.
thanks again

The Escape have a special massage table with a hole in it for your bump

tonton · 10/01/2006 10:35

The Escape in Putnery? I've been there. Will definitely check out the bed!
