I have a scan next week at 16+2wks. Will they be able to tell the sex of the baby?

I reckon so - if is at a big hospital with latest machines etc. I have 3 and we found out with all 3 at the 12 week scan (one was actually 11 weeks) - they are all boys though so is maybe easier to tell Smile. They wont say definitively though until the 20 week scan though - just say something like "in my professional opinion that is likely to be a boy" etc. Or. as with the last one, "If that isn't a willy I will deliver the baby for you!"

My consultant told me he knew at my 14 week scan (was carrying triplets, so scans virtually every week). BUT he refused to tell me until the "official" 20 week scan. The swine. :o

They were boys btw, so befuzzled's idea about them being easier to spot may be true.

We found out at the 12 weeks scan too. It's a boy and was pretty obvious - much to DH delight!

MintChocAddict · 07/12/2011 23:12

15 week scan here. A boy here too, so maybe a theme emerging!

Pumpster · 07/12/2011 23:15

I had a private gender scan at 16 weeks and it was clear.

LadyBeckenham · 07/12/2011 23:15

16 weeks. Clearly a boy Grin

Pumpster · 07/12/2011 23:16

Was a girl btw! They can be clear too.

16 week private scan both times and first lot of twins girls and 2nd lot of twins were boys.

At my 12 week scan which was actually done at 14 weeks she said she couldn't tell me but i think she had an idea about it, had a private scan at 16 weeks and she said she's not allowed to say it's 100% a boy but if it's a girl she's got an extra bit lol she pointed out the boy bits, by 20 week scan she showed me his boy bits on screen and if he is not a bot i will be very worried why he has massive balls!

I was officially told at the later scans [20 weeks with the first and then 22 weeks with the other 2], however at the 12-13 week scan with my 2nd I clearly saw that he was a boy! of course the sonographer couldnt/wouldnt confirm it until the later scan.

Jeezimacasalinga · 08/12/2011 10:21

Was told at 12 week scan for all three (two girls one boy). This was at the Fetal Medicine Centre though - the NHS hospital wouldn't predict until 20 week scan. At 12 weeks they don't say for definite, but say they're about 80% sure - they were right every time though! By 16 weeks they should be able to tell for sure, but it will depend on scan equipment/skill of sonographer....

17 weeks here and they told me it was a girl. She is! Grin
