Hello folks, my sister is 31 years old, expecting her first baby Grin and I'm very excited about being an auntie. She'll be about 15-16 weeks at Christmas and I'd really like to get her something loosely pregnancy related/something that would be very useful/nice for her.

My ds is 4 but it feels like a long time ago and wondered if any of you guys could give me some ideas of what you'd like to receive for christmas in this situation. (Budget allowing! I've not got loads to spend unfortunately...)

Any ideas gratefully received. :)

Pregnancy massage (still hoping I'll be given one of these ... and I'm 37 weeks now)

Dream genie pillow / bio oil (both v practical)

Baby journal (good to start before baby is born)

Mama Mio creams, quite expensive but really good, the Tummy rub is the best

Try this

I actually hated getting pregnancy related gifts. It was my 25th b'day while I was pregnant with DS1 and everyone bought me cocoa butter/stretch mark cream type stuff, I was so upset that all I'd become was a "pregnant woman" to them all.

I think if you'd like to do it though you could maybe get something pregnancy related and something that's still relevant to her as a person regardless of pregnancy.

I do think a massage is a nice idea though.

Thanks for your replies, will have a look at those ideas. (Like the pregnancy pillow one especially, I slept with an ordinary pillow between my knees during pregnancy and have never managed to kick the habit even 4 years on!)

Just done my 3rd pregnant birthday and previously had 2 pregnant x-mases. Things I have been given were voucher for manicure and pedicure, new Pj's/nightie in bigger size, slippers, new toilet bag filled with nice toiletries, so things you can use when pregnant and not.

I totally back the mama mio creams suggestion. I've been using them and not only they're great but, they also have an nice understated smell.
I got this life diary for my baby which I think would make an awesome present. I'm thinking of giving it to him when he's 18 :)

I've asked for a baby photoframe for for xmas so once babys here i can get his first photo up asap. I was given a keepsake box by MIL early on and really loved it.

Basically what ImpYCelyn said - I'd rather not have anything pregnancy related for Christmas, I'd much rather like something for me that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I have a small person currently residing in my uterus.

Clearly, if someone does buy me a pregnancy-related gift, I will be nothing but appreciative to them :)

MiauMau · 08/12/2011 11:11

I'm ok with pregnancy related presents because someone took the time to think about something for me. It's the presents that are given to me but are actually for the baby that kill me and make me feel like saying that I'm more that this little presence inside of me.

DaydreamingOfAWhiteXmasDolly · 08/12/2011 11:24

Same as MiauMau - I received Mama Mio set as a gift and I thought it was really thoughtful as they were thinking of me, not the baby. And the creams were not something I would have indulged myself with, so it was really appreciated.

I had my 30th while pregnant and all my firends got me normal gifts like handbag and jewellery and perfume etc and I really liked that. My sisters bought me a maternity outfit and i really liked that too, but because there was a happy medium between the 2 i didn't feel too overwhelmed with maternity things. And I am presuming people will still stick to this for christmas.

I think if I had a wish list for christmas it would be for things like a leg wax and pedicure as i dont really treat myself to these usually and now especially its difficult to treat my legs and feet and will get more difficult as weeks progress!

Also a pregnancy massage would be lovely as not something you will treat yourself to.

I also think there are lots of things that may seem like they are too early to get if she is 16 weeks she might not be thinking about all the creams etc, im bad with creams and lotions anyway and have warned dh not to get me any as i have drawers full of body lotion not used.

And there are things like pjs and things that i will want to sort out myself closer to the time, and will only start to think about the next stage after christmas so you may not want to bombard her with pregnany stuff if she is maybe thinking christmas first and then next stage of pregnanxy after.

Just personal opinions tho, everyone is different and she might be totally thrilled with a whole heap of pregnancy related stuff

Just as an aside, I am preggers (again) this christmas and I have asked for curling tongs, eyelash curlers and cds! Xmas Grin
