Private OB who does own scans

Hello!
I am due early August and have been calling a couple of OBs. Unfortunately most do not know if they will be in town for the Olympics or not and I want to know that they are aiming to be in London July and August before making a commitment. Also, I want someone who does scans, or is this not preferable?

If you know of a fabulous OB that also does his or her own scans, can you please pass the name? I prefer Kensington Wing or The Portland Hospital.

I already know Keith Duncan is one that does and Paul Armstrong doesn't. Any others???

THANK YOU!!!

Depends what you mean by 'does their own scans'.

Donald Gibb does all his own scans and delivers at the Portland, but I found him a little distant and grumpy so didn't use him.

I'm with Chris Barnick at the Portland and he is lovely. He scans me every time I see him, but for the 12 and 20 week scans you go to the fetal medicine centre.

I don't think them doing the big scans is important, as Prof Nicolaides at the Fetal Medicine Centre is the world expert on the nuchal scan, since he invented it, so it's a great place to go for those scans.

Thank you! I have booked the Fetal Centre (your post is very very reassuring!!!) for my 6-7 week scan as I travel and need to make sure the pregnancy is not ectopic or anything else that may be off. I was recommended Barnick but I read he is a little "cocky" and someone here said they had a life threatening complication because of him! With you I suppose he was magnificent??
And yes, Gibb I already read that he is too the other side of empathetic and with my big ball of nerves I don't think I could do someone who is cold.

Thank you so much for the advice!

Barnick is empathetic, reassuring and supportive. I like his manner because I want someone who is v friendly and I feel looked after. I think if you wanted someone with a manner a little more clinical and detached he could come across as patronising or cocky (and he's probably not the right person to choose if you want detached), but I haven't felt that. I lost twins earlier this year and I honestly couldn't have got through it without him. I think it's important to meet a few and see how you get on with them. His manner works for me. I think he's great, and he certainly cares about his patients.

No experience of private OBs but the Fetal medicine centre are great, very professional and bizarrely cheaper than private scans in the suburb I live in.

I had my baby a month ago at Portland Hospital and my obstetrician was Dr Barnick. He is absolutely amazing, very friendly, extremely supportive, and a very good doctor. I was very much afraid during all the labor process and I really don't think I would have gone through it without him!

Regarding the scans, he scanned me every time I visited him but for the "important scans" he recommends the Fetal Medicine Center because they have much better ecquipment (they can see and measure things that an obstetrician with a basic scanner cannot see) so the safe choice is to visit them for these scans.
