DS1 was pretty easy. But this time I'm having a hideous time. I'm still vomiting and nauseous at 22 weeks (just threw up on the carpet changing DS's nappy). I've had constant headaches and migraines for the last 17 weeks. And I'm completely exhausted and just feel like hell. MWs said it'll probably last for the duration.

I wasn't planning on this being my last pregnancy, but I'm seriously starting to reassess our family plans :(

Do subsequent pregnancies tend to be as bad?

I had hyperemisis in both pregnancies. In first pg was told it was highly likely to happend again; was told the same in 2nd pg too, although not planning any more DC.

Sorry.

LadyWord · 06/12/2011 09:31

First time was not great - felt sick until 15 weeks, was exhausted and never "bloomed" - just felt pretty crap throughout. Second time was MUCH worse - more sickness, more exhaustion, major pelvis problems. But that could be chance, it could be because second one was a girl while first was a boy (that's what some people told me), or it could just be because I was 5 years older and almost 40. Then there is also the fact that it's more tiring because you're looking after a small child.

I don't think I'll have a third because of my age and because DP doesn't want to, but in theory I would go through it again because I'm broody and I just tell myself it wasn't that bad really (when I know it was!) When you're in it, you think "uuuggghh this is unbearable, never again" and then when you're not, you think "oh being pregnant again would be nice!" Hmm

Anyway sorry you feel so crap. More than half way there!

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 06/12/2011 09:35

I had a straightforward pg last time and have had a horrendous time this time. Have been knackered, achy and sick all the way through, no bloom or burst of energy or even 5 minutes where I felt normal. I think that the difference is being 40 instead of 36 and having DD to look after has made all the difference. I just can't take myself off and hibernate when I feel the need.

So no more for me. Another 4 weeks and I'm done with this pregnancy lark.

ImpYCelynAndTheIvy · 06/12/2011 09:48

Thanks everyone, it's not looking promising. Sorry to hear you've all had tough times as well.

I think you're probably right though LadyWord, I'll get far enough away from it and forget and maybe do it again anyway

I'm 26 though, I feel like I should be full of energy etc :( And it's a second boy, although everyone was predicting a girl because I'm so much sicker this time.

Every time I tell my mum I'm feeling a bit better than the day before she confidently tells me I'm over the hump and everything will be fine from now on, and withdraws all sympathy. Invariably I then end up 10 times worse the next day. I wish she'd stop saying it, it's starting to feel like a curse Hmm

DS is only 14 months though, so I suppose that isn't helping at all. God the nappies are killing me...

Good luck for the next 4 weeks Gwendoline!

Sorry for whinging Blush

I was exactly the same!
I had such a perfect textbook pregnancy with my 1st!
This one i've had it all, bleeding, sickness (until now 22 weeks), headaches galore Annnd i also have SPD/PGP! lol! Great fun hehe!

Since my 1st pregnancy was great and this one has been completely different i have been telling myself every pregnancy is different!
I would love one more after this one and havnt been put off atall as i know it will be worth it! My other half on the other hand is not so sure lol!

I just keep saying every pregnancy is different! So lets hope the next one is lol!

I hope you feel better soon and yup im still waiting for the energy your ment to get to come too lol!

Good luck and hope you feel better !!! xxxxx

flossiXxX · 06/12/2011 10:11

hehe ps my 1st was a girl and everyone thought this one was a boy as it was so different but this one is a girl too! Just shows you never really can tell hehe! x Plus i dont think age is much of a fctor im 22 and feel like im 50 at the mo lol! x So much for being young lol! x

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 06/12/2011 10:15

Whinge away! It's one of the only times people take any notice and even that wears off :)

BuckBuckMcFate · 06/12/2011 10:15

1st fine
2nd lots of pain but that was due to baby and had x rays to see if he'd broken my ribs Shock
3rd fine tho sick feeling lasted a long time
4th mc
5th horrendous from start to end, sickness, tiredness, pain at top of bump that meant early maternity leave and basically just sitting down (fun with 3 kids!) loss of vision.

So yes, each pregnancy has been different for me and can safely say never doing it again!

ImpYCelynAndTheIvy · 06/12/2011 10:27

Oh my goodness BuckBuck, your 5th sounds awful - I think I should stop complaining about mine!

I may try to adopt your philosophy flossi (and yours Buck, although yours got progressively worse by the sounds of it, yikes!) and just get through this one and if we want another try to convince myself that they're all different.

I've just put DS to bed early for his nap because I've been rubbish with him so far. I'm going to try to sleep a bit too and see if I can actually get myself sorted and look after him decently when he wakes up. I feel really guilty about being such a crap mum at the moment.

Thanks everyone for replying :)

Let me tell you a positive story.

I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy. Signed off rom work after it all became too much to deal with, and so didn't work after 4 months. I tried various drugs and doses, and nothing worked to make me feel completely better. I was lighter giving birth than I was when I got pregnant (and I was only a size 10 when I got pregnant).

Now I am pregnant with our second baby. 18 weeks, and I feel fantastic. I've had very mild sickness and mild dizziness, but the two pregnancies are complete opposites. I haven't had a day off work and I honestly feel fine. tied (doesn't everyone?) but well.

So, it can be different. Smile

ImpYCelynAndTheIvy · 06/12/2011 10:45

Yay! Thanks HappyAsEyeAm. And very pleased for you too :)

Happy - What a great result for your second pg! Hope it lasts! I suppose mine was better in that I was only admitted to hospital twice rather than 4 times....

razzdazz · 06/12/2011 19:46

This is my 4th pregnancy and so far (touching wood) it has been my best. I have children of both sexes so not gender related.....maybe my body just accepeted it this time, here she goes again Xmas Wink

TeWiharaMeriKirihimete · 06/12/2011 20:08

My first pregnancy was a pile of poop. Not hypremesis thank God - but still really ill, couldn't go in the kitchen without instantly vomiting on the floor etc.

Am 37wks with no2. I have been sick once and had a few days of feeling a bit off. I've been anaemic in both pregnancies but didn't really notice this time around Hmm

flossiXxX · 07/12/2011 08:46

Aw dont feel guilty! It is hard when you feel like crap!

Alligatorpie · 07/12/2011 15:09

First one went amazing, not a single sick day, this one, I feel crap all the time!

ImpYCelynAndTheIvy · 08/12/2011 18:48

Thanks again everyone, especially for the better stories towards the end :o

Hope those of you who are also suffering (Alligatorpie et al) start to feel better soon as well :)

I haven't had a headache for 4 days now (a record) but I'm still so nauseous, and my appetite has vanished. But overall it's better than it was :)
