ok, so have just found out im 6weeks, complete surprise, am still in major shock( am 41, 1 st time..) Completly not prepared and already feeling very guilty and weird about it all, especially as for the last couple of months have been over doing both the booze and the fags!!! There are reasons for my over indulgence but they dont matter right now( maybe a later thread.. If it does all happen how it should!)
So, i do do miss my couple of glasses a night of red, when finished work, wind down,... So, have manged to keep it to just 2since i poas, (3times, all bfp!) 5days ago and really cut down on the fags(5 in 5days, and NONE today!!) But,i do just like the taste!! Its ok with the alchocol free stuff isnt it???
Could be a stupid question, but like i say, im very new to all this...never EVER imagined i would have a child...and although in complete shock( and crapping it) am slowly coming round to it!!
HELP!!!

If you like cider I think the non alcoholic kopperberg cider is quite nice.

PinkPepper · 04/12/2011 22:09

I like this muscat cava type thing in asda but it's just grapes and sparkling water but tastes more 'champagney' than shloer does. I drink cranberry juice if I go out because it doesn't go down as quick as other juice or coke which I finish in about 5 mins!

comixminx · 04/12/2011 22:09

Beck's Blue is really good beer, tastes just like it ought to, and we now drink it in preference to the stuff with booze in it! All the other booze-free beers are pants.

Congratulations! My DC1 and only is 15 months and I am 41 so I know something of what you are feeling, though it wasn't such a complete surprise for me as it sounds like for you. It's a lot of adjustment for sure!

comixminx · 04/12/2011 22:10

I also got a taste for really nice apple juice but your mileage may vary.

PieMistress · 04/12/2011 22:14

Agree with comix becks blue is nice, I like mine in a shandy :)

mrdarceych · 04/12/2011 22:23

Definitely would recommend Becks Blue - I prefer it now to the real stuff.

Non-alcoholic wine is a bit hit and miss. I always fine the red stuff too sweet but the white can be okay: the Torres Natureo is really pretty good medium dry:

mrdarceych · 04/12/2011 22:58

Thanks issy...need a good red recommendation!! Am back in uk in a couple of weeks...and am already thinking of stocking up the car of ANYTHING tasting remotely alcholic!!!...i do have a big car luckily!!!!!

Try the lo-no drinks company.

whenskiesaregrey · 04/12/2011 23:41

YY to Becks Blue also. Actually tastes like lager. And Kopperberg too. Yet to find any decent non-alchy wine though!

If you google alcohol free, there is a company that specialises in just that and they deliver.

brighthair · 05/12/2011 00:47

Not exactly the same but when my friend couldn't drink due to meds I got her some winter spices cordial. Belvoir or bottle green do a spiced berry one. Really nice with hot water, and if you put a cinnamon stick and piece of orange in it's quite mulled wine like

sleepatlast · 05/12/2011 00:54

If you get a craving for mulled wine during the festive season Sainsburys now do a fresh juice with cloves in that can be warmed and tastes very like mulled wine (in the freshly pressed juices section in fridges). Congratulations!

Alligatorpie · 05/12/2011 04:05

I usually have a glass of wine ( or two) in the evenings and thought I would miss it, but honestly I went off alcohol very early. All the wine tasted bitter or sour and I am not much of a beer drinker ( in am also abroad, we can only get hard liquor from duty free and ours is long gone!

melliebobs · 05/12/2011 08:40

O haven't found any which is nice. Alcohol free koppaberg is like drinking medicine and pear drops. And Sainsburies do a alcohol free Rose wine which is just vile

Slovenlymummy · 05/12/2011 14:45

Waitrose do a 0.5% cider which is quite good. Not alcohol free, obviously, but very low.

KatAndKit · 05/12/2011 15:35

Becks Blue is nice when you want the taste of a beer and you are bored of drinking lemonade in the pub. I have not yet found an alcohol free wine that isn't hideous. Even the low alcohol 5% ones are much too sweet for my taste.
I have got a massive taste for tonic water and lemon which is nice and sort of looks like a drink.
But to be honest I have just had to lump missing wine. I love wine and would normally have a glass or two most evenings. I only have one a week now, two at the most and over time I've just got used to it.

roseum · 05/12/2011 22:34

Bitburger do an alcahol free beer that I prefer to Becks Blue (is more a bitter-type flavour than a lager-type) also, Cobra do a non-alcaholic lager beer that I quite like too. Haven't found any nice red non-alcaholic wines, Sainsburys own brand white was OK well chilled. I have also been drinking quite a lot of Big Tom (Virgin Mary mix essentially) and I don't miss the vodka required to turn it into a Bloody Mary.

roseum · 05/12/2011 22:35

Oh and also tonic water with a few drops of angostura bitters (called an Iron Lady as Maggie Thatcher used to drink them - but don't let that put you off).

mrdarceych · 05/12/2011 22:38

Maggie... Dont flame me...my growing up heroine!! Haha!! Cheers to all, found a nice spicy tomatoe juice today in lidl... But it didnt mix too well with the fruit pastilles i was scoffing!!
