Shotgun wedding!

Hello, I have no idea where to post this. Anyway, I am 4 months pregnant and we are thinking about eloping or having a shotgun wedding before baby is born!

Has anyone done this easily? This might be a daft question but if you get married in a registry office, does it have to be based in the borough/ county where you live? We live in London.

Replies gratefully received! Thanks, HB X

Give your local registry office a ring. Why do you want a shot gun wedding?

I thought the definition of a shotgun wedding was a sense of urgency and compulsion (stereotypically the father of the bride keeping said item pointed at the groom till he says 'I do') so I'm a bit baffled by the image if a couple talking over the idea of a shotgun wedding and making a joint decision Grin

This Link gives you the details for getting married in England.

You could also get married in Scotland (it's a good place to elope to!) - there is no requirement for residency in Scotland, you just have to give 15 days notice (link here). In Scotland you can have a civil wedding (registrar) or you ca be legally married by other celebrants.

I did this with my first daughter. A year later it was over.

I think if you've been together ages and marriage is something you've already spoken about, then go for it.

If it's a misguided attempt to create a 'perfect' family, then wait. Smile The registry office will still be there further down the line. Smile

Thank you venusChristmars you have been very helpful! We do like the idea of Scotland, especially as I am quarter Scottish, yet never been. HB X
