Hi, found out I was pregnant last week. Doctor confirmed on Wednesday. Last night had a spot in my underwear. No other indications and this morning only blood when I wipe and a bit in my pee. Called Nhs direct and they just say to make an appointment on Monday with GP. Of course because this is England our medical service shuts down at the weekend (unless you get drunk and punch someone) don't think I can wait till Monday (or possibly Wednesday when I might finally get an appointment) am I being neurotic to want to go to a&e? If I go will they give me a scan at this stage? Some reasoned advice from those that have been there would be fantastic. Thanks x

Hi congratulations on your pregnancy :)

I had light spotting/bleeding at 7-8 weeks with both my previous pregnancies and everything went on to be ok, have you had sex ? My local hospital has an epu early pregnancy unit and I remember from last time they opened Saturday, i had a scan just to check everything was ok. I would see if you have something similar and give them a ring they may let you self refer and go in and see them. I personally don't think a&e will do anything unless you are in severe pain which could point to an ectopic as that would be classed as an emergency.

Good luck and try not too worry :) easier said than done I know.

Thanks goingmadtrying, have spoken to midwife at local hospital who was very reassuring. Bleeding seems to have stopped so going to take it very easy today and keep fingers crossed. Might try and get an appointment at my local epu in the week just to keep my sanity!

Thanks again, lovely to have someone care early on a Saturday morning :)

I had this with 2 out of 4 pregnancies, both girls. None last time round (boy) or this time round (sex unknown!). With DC1 I had it at 11 weeks for a couple of days, cause was never discovered but I did have a low lying placenta in the 20 week scan which can make you more prone to bleeding.

With DC2 I had it at 6 weeks and went to my GP. All he said he could do was a blood test a few days apart to check my HCG levels were still rising and he had a look with the duck billed thing they use for smear tests to check my cervix was closed, it was which was classed as a good sign. He wouldn't let me get an early scan until the 8 weeks mark as he said by then there would definitely be a heartbeat if all ok, whereas between 5-8 weeks if you scan it can just be too early to find a heartbeat which can cause more distress than not knowing. A word of warning if you get a scan that early it is an internal scan, it doesn't hurt but was a shock the first time! I had a scan at 8 weeks and all ok then had bleeding again at 12 weeks. This time a blood clot was detected outside the sac the baby was in and they reckoned I would bleed for 2 weeks as it broke down, they were right.

It is a very worrying time as you want to go to the loo to know the bleeding has stopped but on the other hand you don't in case it is still there but keep your fingers crossed. I have read stories when it has been happening to me of ladies bleeding so heavily it is running down their legs but the baby is fine. It is unfortunately another one of those not to uncommon pregnancy symptoms.

Good luck

Hi! I know how terrifying this is. Worse of all how indifferent some of the medical staff may sound. Call your early pregnancy unit and they should be able to put you for a scan. I waited a day for mine and everything was fine at that point.
