Heart murmur & Shoulder Pain

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my third baby - and when I went to see my GP initially he picked up a heart murmur and said he'd like to check in again at 9 weeks - in the interim I had a bleed and an early scan - (showing baby and heartbeat thank goodness) and we also moved to complicate matters, so I wasn't able to get back.

I've managed to get a new gp and am booked in to see midwives at some point - but stupidly completely forgot to mention the heart murmur when I saw the new GP.

Now I'm starting to get a bit of pain in my left shoulder and arm and some breathlessness in the evenings.

TBH I suspect that it's a bit of anxiety but am a bit worried that it's something to do with my heart!

Does anyone have any experience / advice please?

Thanks in advance S x

I wouldn't worry. I was also diagnosed with a heart murmur in early pregnancy and referred to cardiology. It turned out to be a very mild mitral valve prolapse (its harmless and quite common). From what my GP said, these things are quite often spotted for the first time in pregnancy and usually turn out to be minor. Do get it checked out if the GP recommends it, but the chances of it being anything important are pretty small.

Left shoulder pain & breathless and new murmur....please see a Dr asap. Does pain get worse/come on with exercise? If so v asap. If yes and you have pain now please go to a&e. Above post correct lots of innocent murmurs are picked up in pregancy and this may be nothing but better to be safe. X

Thanks so much for asking after me :) I saw GP today - he wasn't too worried but has referred me for a scan just to be on the safe side. TBH I feel a little better just for having gone!

Good. Better to be safe, you and your bump are precious. Good luck for the scan.x
