4D Scan?

likelucklove · 30/11/2011 10:14

I've booked in for a 4D scan on Saturday in Cardiff. It's with Babybond in Alexandra Gate. Has anyone gone to them? Or had one in general? What did you think?

Had a major scare last week involving a couple of days in the hospital so would like to do it for peace of mind but it's a lot of money, especially when I am on bed rest so not earning any :(

Any help/advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I had one and they are amazing, how many weeks are you? They are only clear quite late on.

Glad to hear things are back on track, enjoy if you do decide to go for it :)

Wormshuffler · 30/11/2011 10:20

I had one at 28 weeks it was amazing and looks just like my ds .

Can you not speak to your GP/midwife and ask for an NHS 'reassurance scan'? Given the fact you have had a serious scare recently, I don't think this would be an unreasonable request, given that you are clearly really worried. If they are funny about it, also call your nearest Early Pregnancy Unit - depending on how many weeks you are you can walk in and ask them if you are worried (or at least you could in the one that was near me when I lived in London).

I know there are mixed views on the 4D scans done in shopping centres etc. They are usually done by someone who isn't a trained sonographer (they are trained to use the machine and show you the baby, but not necessarily with any clinical/diagnostic knowledge) so might miss anything that's a genuine cause for medical concern (in the very unlikely event there is one). I have a place that does 4D scans near me and they are advertised for bonding purposes and for fun, but not as a substitute for hospital scans. Has Babybond told you anything about who does it? Have you looked into seeing a hospital sonographer privately? As far as I know it's about £100 to see one, but then you are also getting the benefit of proper medical attention and if there is any follow up needed that referral can happen straight away within the system (not ideal I know if money is tight).

Not sure if that helps - you sound like you have a genuine reason to ask the hospital to review you again on the NHS so if I was in your shoes I would start there. If you get nowhere you can always go for a private one.

I had a babybond scan in Aberdeen at 26 weeks and it was amazing. DD looks just like DP :) Worth every penny but if its reassurance youre after def speak to your GP/midwife. Hope everything goes ok for you :)

I had a baby bond scan. It is not designed to diagnose any problems but it was a lovely bonding moment with my DD.

HappyCamel · 30/11/2011 19:21

Had one, it was brilliant, helped me bond with the baby which was important because pregnancy was more of an illness for me. It helped me get excited again.

I did baby premier just at the end of second trimester and was a.mazing! When dd was born she did look like some of the 3d Images and video. The detail was phenomenal!

I had a babybond scan in Bristol, it was actually far better than expected. I already get extra scans on the NHS due to a previous nasty history, but really wanted to take DD (4) to see the baby, and thought the NHS ones are all a bit too clinical and scary.

This was great, whilst it wasn't as in depth as an NHS one, the sonographer did take certain measurements, to check that baby was the correct size for dates etc etc.

Good luck x

I thought I replied to this yesterday but hasn't come up sorry!

Goingmad - I'm 26+2 so hopefully should be able to make it out as looking like one of us like BabyCarmen and Wormshuffler but DP is going away until Xmas so couldn't get any other date!

Hot Pink - I actually had a midwife you gave me a lot to ask about thank you! Asked about possiblity of extra scans. She wasn't impressed really with hospital since they hadn't confirmed on my notes what had happened or my injections. She said because they hadn't found any evidence of major bleeding (which is why I went in) they would not do anymore. Doctors took 3 hours to examine me both times so no wonder it had stopped! But, I am measuring smaller than I should be so having an NHS growth scan is a possibility if I carry on which is exciting too! They have also said a qualified sonographer will be doing the scan, which is next best thing as my hospital does not offer extra scans even if you pay.

Thank you everyone for all your help it does look like we will be doing it! I will upload the pictures to my profile on Saturday if anyone wants to have a nose. Showed my DP this thread too and he got so excited, he just hopes she hasn't got his forehead!

I had to wait to show all the family the pictures in case these out me on here now! It was amazing :) She wasn't being moved for the first 10 minutes but after perseverance from the lovely sonographer, she didn't stop and her mouth was going and she was playing with the cord. Best experience we could have this side of labour!

She has my nose and fingers and DH's tallness by the seems of it. Thank you all for your help in deciding to go ahead with it and we're cuffed to pieces with the video especially, I'm the first person in my family to have proper scan pictures, let alone a 4D scan so it is mind blowing to everyone.

Pictures are on my profile if you want to have a peek :) 3/44!
