electric shock

I have just been trying to fix a lamp and thought I'd unplugged it. Such an idiot I can't believe it. Anyway I got an electric shock. Not a big one but it made me jump. Is there any way it can have hurt my baby? I'm 13 weeks and feel quite sick. Can anyone help? thank you

If you are worried then ring your MW - I'm sure they can give you more advice. I've no idea I'm afraid. Hope all is well.

Spidermum - what happened with this. i had a minor shock yest and a google search ahs left me very worried. Hope you see this thanks.

The same thing happened to me when I was only about 10 weeks I went to A & E but they wldnt give me a scan as didnt have the correct scanning equip only the sound monitor and as was so early thought it would be worse if they couldnt pick up anything and made me wait til my 12 week scan - all was well tho!! Baby healthy now 5 months old !! I did feel sick too but think we tend to make ourselves worse as we worry - hope all is well

I would ask your m/w if they can listen to the heartbeat, just to reassure you. I'm sure you will be fine pookey but I'm also sure that you will worry until you hear that pitter-pat

Thanks so much for posting, thats reassuring. I have my 20 week scan next week so not too long to wait - also Dp thinks it wasnt an electric shock because it was after I unplugged the hairdryer and touched the plug by mistake, I do hope so. Still feel dry in the throat after what I read but beginning to calm down.

I have just come onto the pregnancy topic section to start a thread asking the same thing as I have a had a minor electric shock tonight whilst unplugging an extention lead with wet hands (idiot). I too googled it and have worried myself. I haven't even seen a midwife yet. I'll be watching this thread with interest. Let's hope were all OK. I'm only 8.5/9 weeks by the way.

When I was 7 weeks pregnant, I was on the phone when lightning struck the telephone line (it was the very beginning of the storm, no warning, first flash hit it.) It was a very powerful surge which rooted me to the spot then stopped, at which I fell to the floor but don't think I lost consciousness - I was on my own so can't be 100% sure. Was very worried as you are. Saw the midwife the next day who tried to reassure me and organised a scan for the following week. Scan revealed a very mobile fetus. It happened nine years ago last month and I can still remember it clearly. But she was fine - try not to worry, just get checked to reassure yourself. [smile)

Forgot to add that I had burns to my cheek, hand, leg and foot. Not bad enough to need treatment, but proved it wasn't my imagination!

Ring the Early pregnancy unit of your hospital and see if they will give you a scan, impress on them how worried you feel. I had a scan at 9 weeks with my 1st for spotting. I hope everything is ok for you, the article i read said that the risks seemed to be less in the 1st 20 weeks. I am pretty close to that mark though. Try not to worry DP thinks I am being silly. x

It was awfully frightening. I shook like a leaf for hours, was so shocked.

Trust all will prove well with those of you who are worrying about this - my midwife said that the baby's heartbeat and mine were independent of each other, so even if the shock had affected my heart rhythm momentarily, the baby was protected IYSWIM? It is reassuring to hear the baby's heartbeat and see them on the scan though, all the same.

I touched an electric fence when I was about 20 weeks pregnant with DD and got a large, jolting shock.

DD is fine, but has extremely curly hair which everyone comments on and no one else in the family has!

I had the baby's heartbeat checked by my GP after the midwife recommended I arrange an appointment at the antenatal clinic - for some reason the recptionist gave me an emergency appointment with Gp instead which freaked me out! The heartbeat was normal as was my bloodpressure and the GP thought I need take no further action Neither the midwife nor the GP made me feel ridiculous for wanting to check everything was ok. Thanks for all the support.

i'm 17 weeks pregnant and just got a shock off some fairy lights. shall call hospital in the morning, am very worried.
