I heard on the news a week ago that each women would be able to have a choice now wether to have c section ( even without a medical reason for it) I'm not sure if the law had been implemented yet or it's just an on going discussion now!
I'm 27 weeks and my baby seem to be larger than usual and the baby's father was born 5kg 200gr which is huge! I'm Worried about having a natural birth due to my friends having serious implications however I'm not sure that c section would have less risks!
Please voice your opinions on this :)

@YULEingFanjo I had a tiny baby, vaginal birth and huge, long last, significant, life altering trauma. I'm having a c section this time. I really, really wish I'd had one last time.

Angel786 sorry to hear about the 'small cut'. I'm worried about this myself as I've been told shoulder dystocia due to gestational diabetes. Did you have any growth scans, were you expecting it or was it a massive shock during labour?

Agree re the scare mongering. Ridiculous and unhelpful.

OP just to give you the alternative view - I also had a big baby - was measuring 99th centile consistently throughout the pregnancy. I was tossing up whether to have an elcs or try naturally (I was private so could ask for elcs on demand, no having to jump through nhs hoops). Fwiw my consultant said that the risks for an elcs and a vb were roughly the same - they were just different risks. So for elcs the risk is for infection and other surgical complications, for vb it’s for bad tearing and eg prolapses. But the likelihood of something going wrong is roughly the same.

In the end, my baby decided for me by coming almost 3 weeks early. I decided to try to naturally labour. He got stuck, and both ventouse and forceps failed to remove him, so I ended up with an emcs anyway 🤷‍♀️ . The recovery even from an emcs was absolutely fine, I was walking on day 2, discharged from hospital on day 3. My consultant was quite firm about me walking and being active from the start, and he said picking up the baby from day 1 is fine - just nothing heavier. The only ill affects from birth was some pain in my back, which was from the natural labour!

So don’t be scared either way. I would suggest having a later scan to see what your babys growth is doing and you can take a call then.

Ps weight wise, my scans were spot on, ds was estimated 8lb at 37+1 and arrived at 8lb1 at 37+4
