Bash your husband around the head until he learns to be more supportive? And the rest of your family for that matter. Your weight isn't a problem but THEY are.

Family like that is the last thing you need :( If it helps, my experience is that the bigger you are to start with (and I'm bigger than you) the less you put on. The women who put on 3 and 4 stone are always about 7 stone to start with. I put on 1.5 stone with dd and was 2 stone lighter the week after she was born and I'm on track to do the same sort of thing this time (am 35 weeks).

But most of all don't worry about it, it's not worth getting upset over. This is the one time in your life when as long as you're eating a good balance, weight is secondary. And congratulations :)

Don't worry about it, it is true, the ones who are underweight gain the most.. I'm 19 weeks and gained a stone and a half. Weighed 7.9 before. Plus....who gives a crap wt anyone thinks :) ur growing a baby inside of u..what do they expect? It to be feather light. Best of all don't worry about it. And if u rly have to say something to them, then just let it flow. They do. most of all congratulations!!!

I was 22st12.5lb when I got pregnant (145kg), I'm now 36+5 and at the hospital "fat clinic" 2 weeks ago I weighed 144kg. I gained 2-3lb in the first month (my boobs went up 3 cup sizes in a month!) but then lost about 9lb in total and that's gradually all gone back on. The hospital told me to aim to gain not more than 6kg and I've not gained any, baby is growing fine (5lb11oz at 34+6). I think if you eat relatively sensibly then you won't put on too much, or at least that's been my experience. I just haven't had the room to eat as much as I used to.

Hi SarahMarie, I'm a bit down tonight about my weight gain. Am 21 wks & have gained a stone so far. Baby number 3 & Bump def bigger this time, but my thighs & legs are expanding just as rapidly & my boobs will soon be ag my chin. Am only 5'2" so feel like a tellytubby :-(
Can't believe your in-laws would dare to comment on your weight. It riles md so much that people feel they can freely do so when there's a Bump involved.

beginnersluck · 29/11/2011 08:19

also in my experience the weight piles on massively in some weeks and then not so much in others - so if one week you see you've put on loads, try not to freak out too much about it!

gypsycat · 29/11/2011 09:58

I've put on 14 kilos in the last 7.5 months and my doctor yelled at me. She's now put me on a strict preggy diet for the next 10 weeks. On the bright side, I lost a little over a kilo in a week. :)

My BMI is 40, 5ft7 and am classed as morbidly obese, i was also MO in my last pregnancy nearly 4yrs ago.
I was put under consultant led care because i was soooooo fat! ( argh ) how dare i!
But then i also develpoed GD, managed to control it with diet and DC was born just 7lbs 10oz, so not a massive baby, well execpt for a pumpkin head!
I put on about 2st with my first, which was not good considering i was big to start with, but i lost it after, then gained it back later :S.
I am heavier by about 1+1/2 stone this time round and am trying to follow the GI diet as it helped control my GD last time.
I really would like to loose a little weight maybe a stone or two, just to help with the immenent pending arrival of SPD.
Im only 6 weeks so far, but haven't gained, due to loss of appetite, and only wanting soup or broth when i can eat.
I however can say that i truely regret not having a little more self control over my food last time, it was much harder (for me) after having DC to lose the weight.

I don't have a scale but I am sure I gave gained a lot, my arms and legs look fatter too. I am only 12 weeks, so I am worried, as I never got to my pre- preg weight after my dd was born six years ago.

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/11/2011 07:34

Relax. It's natural your body will change and maybe it wants to put down a bit of fat. I was starving for carbs first (and aherm second) trimester and am definately wobblier than I was (it's not all baby but a large percentage hula hoops and starbucks fruit toast) but I was reminded by someone that pregnancy is a time to enjoy being that little bit softer and feminine.

The most helpful thing I did was just to be nice to myself and stop panicking about it, In second trimester you'll maybe feel like exercising more. A lot of people do. After about 14/15 weeks I was back to walking ab hour a day and daily yoga plus odd swimming/pool aerobics and felt more myself.

Just eat well with some guilt free treats if you fancy it (not all treats :-) ) and enjoy your pregnancy.
