Well it looks as though I will be discharged soon but I'm going to have to go home catherterised.

They put one in after my epidural and took it out 2 days after my emergency c-section. However, my bladder wouldn't respond so they put it back in again for 24 hours. They then took it out and gave me 6 hours to pass urine which I did but it wasn't very much and difficult to do so they put it back in and sure enough loads came out which showed that my body is still a bit confused. I now have to have it in for a week and I'm quite upset. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Poor you Sad No real advice I'm afraid but didn't want to read and run.

As far as I know it's actually not that rare, I know my hospital are super consciencious about bladders/urine durine labour and post natal.

I'm sure once your body has had a chance to recover a little you'll be fine. Good luck - make sure you report any unwellness or discomfort to your mw.

And congrats on your band new baby Smile

I had one for four days after DS was born (vaginal delivery), had catheter during labour which I pushed out and caused some bruising. I didn't pass urine for 12 hours after birth so had to be catheterised again, but they gave me a drip-flow catheter to empty myself, but I had to bite how much I drank and how much I emptied, once it was finally removed I then had to pee in a jug for a few hours and have a bladder scan immediately after peeing to make sure my bladder was fully emptying. I know it isn't the most pleasant but the doctors were v concerned about a distended bladder and gave me the impression this was quite serious, so although I was quite upset at the time it was worth it in the end as I had no serious lasting effects.
