How did you feel after a sweep??

As you may have guessed by the name this is my first baby.

I am 40+1 today and had a sweep about 10:30 this morning i have felt sore on and off since (stomach not inside) not sure whether this is because of the sweep or if i should be watching them?

Could this be the start of labour or just because of the sweep??

Any information or experiences would be more than welcome!

Thanks

I had 2 sweeps and had bleeding/spotting and cramping for about 24 hours both times. Neither led to labour though :(

Dartfordmummy · 24/11/2011 18:59

My DS arrived 1hr 47 mins after my sweep :)

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 24/11/2011 19:02

Violated, frankly Shock I've had them when overdue for both dc, though never as early as 40+1. I foudn them very uncomfortable and bled after each one. Tbh, if you're not ready to go into labour a sweep will do nothing but hurt you. At 40+1, and on a first pregnancy, you could be here for a while yet I'm sorry to say.

PotteringAlong · 24/11/2011 22:04

I had mine today at 40+4. It didn't hurt in the slightest but precisely zero has happened since!

Coldcuppacoffee · 24/11/2011 23:36

Violated is about right. Although I felt positive as MW said I was already a little dilated.

Had it on Tuesday afternoon. mW told me to go home and have sex( couldn't think of anything worse!). Wed I stood up all day hoping gravity would help. Wed night waters broke. Thursday lunchtime, baby!

I was a bit sore and did have some early labour aches. But tbh I was just sore in general so difficult to attribute pain.

Good luck!

Had one at 38+5. Sore after, but it did nothing.
Had one 3 days later, was 3cm dilated by then, didn't feel a thing and fairly sure it got everything moving along. Baby born 39+1.

Thank you for all the replys.

I had a definate show and have been n pain since about 5 last night! Nothing is regular though but definitely different than other pains i have been having.

Hoping this is the start think i will go out a long walk today and see if that helps :)

Ooh, I'm very jealous! I got all excited at about 3am and had to get up as couldn't lie in bed but foolishly did the washing up at by 4am it'd all stopped.

Good luck! How are you feeling?

MiauMau · 25/11/2011 10:11

stressheaderic why so early?

LittleWhiteWolf · 25/11/2011 10:53

I had one at 4:30 when mw said I was 2cm dialated and afterwards lost my show. Then my waters broke at 8pm and that was that. I was 41+1 and DD arrived the next day. I was obviously on the cusp and it gave me a nudge!

Good luck!

FirstTimeMummyToBe · 25/11/2011 10:55

I was the same every 10 mins at 3 and couldn't lie they were so sore.

Havng tightnings again but not sore :( going to go for a bath and see if it makes any difference.

Hopefully this is going to happen soon for us pottering how are you now?

My midwife said that i was just over 1cm dilated and the sweep didn't hurt. Everybody i have heard who said it hurt it didn't work for them.

So fingers crossed this may work. Think i am just wishful thinking though!

I had one and it felt uncomfortable but didn't really hurt. I never felt anything after though and it didn 't work.

Good luck

I had one at 37 weeks. I was 1-2cm and 60% effaced, so reasonably favourable, but I just had cramping and lots of bloody show for a couple of days, then nothing.

I was induced 5 days later.

blushingbaby · 25/11/2011 14:02

My first on mon - not a lot (1-2cm)
My second on wed - pain every 7 mins for 6hrs then nothing (3cm)
My third this morning - nothing (3-4cm and very stretchy) Now feeling depressed!!

FirstTimeMummyToBe · 25/11/2011 14:13

Blushing My friend was 4cm when she went to hospital and had her son 2 1/2 hours later.

Fingers crossed it will happen soon for you :)

Hi everyone just wanted to update this.

I ended up in hospital on Friday night because of contractions.Send home with painkillers. Back in on Sat at 6:30pm and had my son Sunday at 14:13pm.

It took 3 days but it was definitely the sweep for me he was only 1/5th engaged when i had it (wed) and on sat afternoon he was nearly fully engaged.

Hope the rest of you girls are in labour or getting there :)

Lovely news, and thanks for coming back to the thread.

MiauMau - I had my sweeps early as I'd had a show and was already in hosp with a kidney infection and keen to get things moving.

OP, enjoy your lovely new boy, newborn snuggles are the best.
