Hi

I am really worried I have found out I have gestational diabetes with a reading of 9 should be 7.7. I am pregnant with twins and really scared I have read so many horror stories. The hospital said that they will see me every two weeks now and I will also see a dietician.

I can live without sugar that is not the problem but I am so scared for my babies. I am 25 weeks and 1 days. This is our 4th attempt via IVF.

Please don't be too worried.

Are you diet controlled or on insulin?

I have GD too, and it is livable with. You, and your babies will be absolutely fine Smile

Hi I have literally just found out this morning so feel in a bit of a blur right now. I see the community midwife later and hopefully see the dietician on monday regarding changes to my diet etc. Just not sure what to eat right now other than cutting out sugar. Thank you for your lovely message.

Hi twinmum

I had GD in my 4th pregnancy. I found the diabetic team at my hospital were really good. I think you just have to try and follow their advice, and then things should be fine.

I was also diagnosed at 25 weeks, and had to start on medication almost straight away as even most of the 'ok' foods were making my BS too high. I ended up on insulin at about 33 weeks as the only way I could keep my levels down was to not eat hardly anything, which obviously wasn't any good either! I wish I hadn't worried so much about the insulin, as it really wasn't as bad as it sounds!

On the plus point even though I ended up being induced at 38 weeks, had a fairly quick, straight forward birth and everything, including baby, was fine afterwards. It does all seem a bit scarey at first, and I quess since you are having twins things will be even more monitored, but I always thought that was a good thing, as at least they will pick up any problems straight away. Hope everything goes ok for you.
