early engagement = early baby?

I am due on Xmas Day so am 35 weeks at the mo. My midwife said the baby's head was engaged yesterday, a bit earlier than is usual. I think she said it was three-fifths engaged. Does anyone know if this means the baby might be early? Don't know why I didn't think to ask!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Nope! My first baby was 3/5s engaged at 33 weeks and born at 40+15. All he did was grind against my pelvis for 9 weeks and get his silly-self a cone head. My second baby was still breech at 36 weeks and didn't engage until I was in labour... there's no telling with these babies! Good luck.

DD was engaged quite early on.

She was born at 42+2.

If it's not your first baby then they can "pop in and out" before the big day.

Thanks! Interesting. It's my first. Think I'm just desperate to know if the baby's likely to be here in time for xmas! Getting so excited now!

I was in your position, almost exactly, and the dr said 'ah, a nice Christmas present' and then wouldn't elaborate - my due date was New Year.
I did go 2 weeks early but really it's anyone's guess.

My first engaged early, think it was like 32 weeks, only went to 2-3/5ths I think, but he was 11 days late and that was only because I got induced! He never did fully engage I had to push him. I can remember when I got told he was engaged, I was so happy as I thought hed be a tad early...yea right. BUT there is that chance! I hope you have ur little baby maybe the 23rd so ur outta hospital hopefully 24th if all is well. That wud be perfect wudnt it!! :D

DS2 engaged v early and didn't pop in and out - was 4/5 for about 8 weeks and he was 4 days late in the end!

posterofagirl · 24/11/2011 16:02

Nope DD was engaged for weeks before arriving at 42+6

Sorry!

Truffkin · 24/11/2011 16:03

Unfortunately not for me, my baby has been engaged for 5 weeks and I'm currently a week overdue I think in short, it doesn't mean anything so you could be early, on time or late Grin Hope it all goes well.

Thanks! Ohhh ... guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure I'll be delighted whenever baby decides to appear, but would love to avoid Xmas Day / New Year!
