Hi
I had my 20 week scan on monday as was told my baby is very small especially the head I have been referred to a specialist in southampton for a more in depth scan just wondered if I could compare???
I was 20+2 when the scan was done
Hc = 161.5
Ac = 143.6
Fl = 29.4
I was told ac and fl wete just on the 5th percentile but the head was off the scale?

My scan with DD (now a healthy 10-month old) was done at 20 + 4.

Her measurements were:

HC = 184.1
AC = 156.0
FL = 32.0

There is a scale though, and DD was above average for HC and AC, and below average for FL. It doesn't say on my papers what the range of 'normal' actually is.

I am no expert, but I really don't think your measurements look that far out. I think a specialist (with better equipment) should be able to put your mind at rest. It's amazing what decent equipment can do - don't forget this is just one snapshot done at one moment in time.

Good luck.

Hi Ems
I've not had personal experience of this but you might find you get more replies if you also post in the antenatal tests/choices section too.
I hope you're ok - it's really worrying indeed isn't it when you're waiting for more tests - hope the Southampton appointment is soon.
Thinking of you.

Hi

Look on this website it might help www.baby2see.com/medical/charts.html
My DD measured small at 20 weeks but caught up but was then born at 34 weeks, happy and healthy I might add a healthy 5lb 9oz!

Hi,
My scan at 20 wks measured baby as
Hc 172.4
Ac 156.8
Fl 36.0
Your measurements don't seem that small?

Hi emsgale,
My now 3 yr old was measuring 3 weeks behind at the 20 scan, she had at 15 week scan measured normal for her gestation. She was always around the 3rd centile. There was great concern at the time and I had regular scans to check growth and placental blood flow. Anyway, she was fine, remained small and is tiny to this day but perfect. Babies all do their own thing from this stage on, perhaps you are just having a petite baby like me.
I ended up having an amnio to rule out any problems which was clear. My bp went up later on, it seems the two were probably related but like I said she is still tiny now so perhaps genetic too, I am not large. I know what a worrying time it can be when you are waiting for answers. I hope that the specialist can give you some reassurance.

thank you all for your replies!!
i have my appointment tomorrow so we will get much more info then im sure i just keep trying to think a small baby does not mean unhealthy!
my daughter was 6lb 11oz when born at 39 weeks but dropped to 5lb 11oz within a couple of days and has been pretty petite ever since. when i was born i was only 6lb 4oz and im only 5ft 1 now and my partner was the last of 4 children and he was 6lb 13oz the smallest of the lot and he was even monitored as a child because he was always small for age and quite skinny but he is the healthiest person i know.
so im hoping it genentic not anything serious.
i will post on the other wall recomended too.
thanks again
