I did the test this morning and it revealed what I already kinda knew - am pregnant again! Thing is as this is news to me, I've not been taking any pregnancy vits/folic acid, I've been drinking across christmas and generally living the life of one who hasn't got a baby in her belly. Feeling a bit concerned now and will obviously get straight on the case today. Anyone else been in this situation? My partner assures me there will be loads of other women who haven't discovered they're pregnant until at least four weeks in.....any words of wisdom please?

Yes, my ds is now 2.4, I was pregnant over Christmas 2002 and had no idea.

I am also a September baby and my mum says the same happened to her over Christmas!

Congratualtions

Congratulations!
I'd been drinking etc. without knowing I was pregnant until I found out at 8 weeks and DD is now 13 months and was a very healthy 9lbs 14 at birth. Start taking the folic acid immediately, it will still help.
Your partner is right, absolutely loads of people have been in the same situation

i didnt realise i was pg with ds1 til i was 10 weeks. i was 19 at the time and drank over 20 units of alcohol at least 4 times a week i stopped as soon as i found out! he seems fine thankfully infact if it stunted his growth i am rather glad as he was 9lb13 when he arrived

congratulations and try not to worry about it! There are loads of women who don't find iout til later in the pregnancy - my SIL's sister didn't kow until she was 30 weeks

mummytosteven · 05/01/2006 08:42

Yes, I didn't find out till I was 5 weeks. I'd been drinking, doing weights at the gym, taking ADs and anti-histamines, and had a dental x-ray. And of course not taking folic acid or following the listeria guidance! And everything's fine!

rubles · 05/01/2006 08:45

Tommy,

How did she not know - was she having periods? Was she overweight anyway, and just thought her tummy was getting hard? What did she think the kicks and the movements were?
What made her have a test in the end?

Sorry for the thread digression, but I am fascinated by how this happens.

I worked with someone whose SIL Didn't know she was pregnant until THE HEAD WAS COMING OUT!!!!!!

Gave birth in a layby!

bootsmonkey · 05/01/2006 08:51

God, my DD was pickled in cheap red wine and retsina for the first 3 weeks of her life - discovered I was PG after a three week holiday in Greece!! Came back to find I was 5 weeks gone! She is absolutely fine, NO problems. Don't worry about, look after yourself and start taking the folic acid now!

Thanks loads everyone for your reassuring words. It really is lovely to be able to turn to friends you've never met when you're mind is playing up!

Pilipala, I had a major drink fest at a MN xmas meet-up and then found out I was pg 3 days after

I got lots of reassurance and was told plenty of stories involving Alcohol and soft cheeses

You'll be fine. Like Bootsmonkey said, start king your Folic acid now.

Come and join us on the Due Aug 06 ante-natal club board. I'm guessing your due in August?

Congratulations anyway

vickiyumyum · 05/01/2006 09:20

yes me!!! i wasn't planning on becoming pg for the third time and it must have happened just before my holiday in august, so needless to say i was not taking folic acid/vit, i was drinking rather a lot (although looking back now i was drinking lager and lime, something that i wouldn't ususally touch, not eatibng the right things, lots of shellfish and cheeses.

i didn't actually have my pg confirmed until 18 weeks as urine pg tests kept coming back negative. i had my scan at 22 weeks and thankfully it looks like everything is fine, so fingers crossed.

i think that the majority of people will be fine, in other countries they don't worry too much about the folic acid and the french encourage a glass or two of wine and unpasteurised cheese. i'm sure that you will be fine and fwiw if you eat bread or cereal brought from the shops these are fortified with vitamins and folic acid.

rubles - I know - it's quite amazing isn't it? She had been trying to lose weight, had continued to have periods and had felt flutterings but had no idea what they were! Eventually she found out by going to GP about not being able to lose the last bit of weight round her tummy I suppose if you have no reason to suspect you are pregnant and have never been before, you wouldn't think about it?
The baby was actually early as well so, as far as she was concerned, she was only pregnant for 5 weeks - that I could cope with

nightowl · 05/01/2006 09:31

i was another one. baby totally unplanned. there i was drinking, smoking, going to the gym..everything i would normally do for the first 8 weeks. baby was fine. i know lots of people who all did the same before they knew and their babies were also fine.
