What the heck is going on here? 32 wks and minding my own business in Boots.. Next thing I know I have bought a sponge and heading home to chew on it.. And now I can't get enough. Feel like a total freak!! Anyone else have anything similar? Am I missing something in my diet?? Mmm. Spongey loveliness.

Its called Pica! My aunt craved coal & chalk! I am terrible for crunching my way through trays of ice cubes....

this has reminded me - I'd forgotten/blanked it out completely - that as a little girl I used to take new sponges out of the bathroom and into my room to chew/suck on. What was that all about? So you're definitely not the first person in the world to have craved a sponge. Yum. Now I want one again. I can remember the taste exactly.

What kind did you get, by the way? I'm pregnant now, I can see I may have to make an emergency trip to Boots myself.

Same with my last pregnancy. I could sit for hours chewing on a sponge and I even bought some little ones to much on at work. It's totally bizarre and stopped the minute I gave birth. 21 weeks with second DC so reckon I might be stocking up on the sponges soon.

Oh, thank goodness!!!! About halfway into my pregnancy I was craving rubber, much to DH's horror I even went and bought a dummy to chew on but it wasn't the same...

Now I'm all about sponges too - even the word makes me feel all funny... sponge....mmmmm.
I've also got a real thing for flannels rinsed out with hot, soapy water. I desperately want to suck them but usually I just settle for putting one over my nose and face to breath through Blush.

I was trying to keep this one to myself, thinking I was a bit strange so it's nice to hear of like minded people!!

BTW I'm only like this when pregnant - weird. However I remember having similar "cravings" when I was about 3 years old. I was still very attached to a dummy and used to suck sponges in the bath, maybe it's something to do with craving the securities of our youth...??

Well now I want a sponge of my own. The loofah is not cutting it.

Partypopper · 22/11/2011 16:48

With me it's hair! Only my own, and only what is attached to my head, (I'm not gathering it off hairbrushes or anything) but I just can't stop chewing it, I'm getting dreadful split ends.

Sponges is a new one on me, but can see the appeal!

ITryToBeZenBut · 22/11/2011 17:06

I popped in with a head full of of Mr Kipling, coconut and jam and chcocolate fudge sponges so not quite what I was expecting to feed my deep desire for cake Smile

Really wondering what's in sponge now that the body might be craving?

Less calorific too.

Partypopper · 22/11/2011 17:16

Ha ha itry- sorry to disappoint, but brilliant idea- going to justify it from now on as a low cal snack! Have a try-they're mega. Grin
