Hi there,

Just got confirmation from the GP today that I am indeed pregnant. And as my username suggests, I'll be due in July 2012. I think when she told me the due date, it really meant that we were pregnant. This is a first pregnancy for me and my husband. We're both overjoyed yet also very overwhelmed.

What do we do first? Where do we start? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and sorry if I seem clueless...I'm new here to the UK and my mom had passed away a few years ago and I don't have any siblings and none of my close friends have ever been pregnant before!

So please help! Thanks!

Well congratulations both of you!

My first thought is book your booking appointment ( first appointment with midwife). Just contact your doctors surgery and say you need a booking appointment and they will get the ball rolling.

Only thing to watch out for is how many weeks you will be at that appointment as you should have a scan at around 12 weeks and some of the vital details can only be collected between 11 1/2 and 14 1/2 weeks. So if your booking appointment is late you may need to call your hospital of choice and book yourself in for a 12 week scan rather than wait for midwife to do this.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion, Laura. That sounds quite importatnt. Luckily my GP is already on it and has requested a booking appointment and booking scan for me.

Congratulations to both of you!
There's not really much you have to do if your appointments are already being taken care of! You do need to take really good care of yourselves and the little bumps and enjoy every step of the way :)
You will have plenty to think about regarding clothing, nursery, etc but guess it's just a bit early now...
