Hernia during pregnancy - anyone else suffering?

Was just wondering if anyone else had been diagnosed with a hernia during pregnancy? Anyone currently suffering from one?

Ive been told I have one and I'm only 23 weeks - starting to panic that I'm going to end up in hospital on bed rest as the baby is in the 95th percentile size wise and i only have a very small frame.

Anyone had any useful advice from the doctor? Also anyone been told what their birthing options are?

Thanks for your help!!!!

Hi Insomnia

I was diagnosed with a ingrual hernia during my last pregnancy, basically a hernia near my groin.

I wasn't given any special treatment and just carried on with my pregnancy as normal - apart from a second large bulge!

I was worried that i'd have to have a c-section because of it but I ended up having a normal birth (with the help of forceps!).

I then had the hernia repaired when my DD was 5 months old as I was told that my hernia wouldn't get any better and it could get strangulated.

Although I had mine operated on I've got a couple of friends who also got hernia's during pregnancy but because theirs were in the stomachs and were quite small they haven't had to have theirs operated on.

I'm currently 22 wks with second dc and so far my hernia repair seems to be holding up.

I hope that's helped!

Thanks for your reply lili80 - I have an umbilical hernia which the specialist hopes will just sort itself out once the baby is out!!!

I keep panicking because it has been really painful for a few days and just been slipping out. I'm afraid its going to get strangulated and then the baby is going to be affected. My GP said if the hernia comes out and doesn't go back again then it becomes an emergency - I haven't got a second lump it's more like a really soft belly button and surrounding tissue.

I've been signed off work and currently can't even do basic things for myself which is really getting me down......just keep thinking that I have another 17 weeks to go and I'm basically stuck to the sofa!!!!
