Posting on behalf of my sister. Has anyone had quite a bit of bleeding early in pregnancy & all been fine?

My sister is 13 weeks pregnant now & has been bleeding on & off over the last few weeks. Sometimes it has just been spotting & other times red blood.
She has been for 3 scans now, the last of which was last week, and all appears fine. They can't explain why she has been having the bleeds (she never had this with her first baby) & much as my sister is reassured by the scans, she is worried it could mean there is a problem with the baby.

Has anyone experienced anything similar & all turned out ok?

My niece had this. She bled throughout the entire pregnancy. She was told that it was likely that she was having a miscarriage but she never did. At first they thought it was a problem with the placenta but it turned out not to be. The scans showed a little pocket of blood, they didn't know why it was there. She eventually had a healthy baby boy at 36 weeks.

Fingers crossed for your sister and baby. Smile

yes i had this for second pregnancy but not for the first. DD is now 3 and absolutely fine. it stopped around 14 weeks iirc. hope your sister is ok.

Concordia · 17/11/2011 21:23

should add i had anterior placenta second time around, don't know if this was a factor. it was very worrying though.

I had some bleeding at around 13 weeks. I didn't do anything about it and it stopped of its own accord. I mentioned it to my MW and she looked concerned, said if it ever happened again I was to go straight to A&E.
It didn't, so I didn't, and everything was fine. DS born at 37+6 and is gorgeous and healthy to the core.
If shes concerned she could ring NHS Direct or the OOH GP?

I bled for ten weeks, on and off, between 10 and 20 weeks. It did my head in, especially after my previous miscarriage.

All was fine. It can be innocuous depending on the cause of the bleeding - sometimes there's a small cyst on your cervix or something.

Best of luck to your sister and I hope all goes well for her.

TIDDLYMUM · 17/11/2011 22:22

Yes! Also had much heavier than normal bleeding pre delivery as well as bleeding in early pregnancy. The result is upstairs aged thirteen tomorrow snoring his head off! Good luck to your sis xx

I had lots of episodes of bleeding (15-20?) from early on until about 5 months with my 2nd child but not my first. Not masses of blood at a time but more than just spotting. I had additional scans etc and eventually a junior doctor realised it was coming form the cervix itself (cervical erosion?). No problems, natural birth at 40 weeks and no problems with the baby (who is now 2).

I hope she is OK. My mw told me I had to get it checked out each time to make sure all was fine as even if the cause was innocent the first time it might have been a differnet problem in the future. This makes sense but I did spend a lot of time hanging around in clinics!

Bled throughout both pregnancies. Dd1 is now 8 and dd2 is 4!
Mine was down to cervical erroadtions (sp?).

stayfornoone · 17/11/2011 22:27

Yes me too. First pregnancy it was cervical erosion. Second pregnancy I had a submemberous clot (sp) but it was between the amniotic sac and wall of womb, eventually was reabsorbed. Third pregnancy was due to a lower lying placenta though it moved up later on iin pregnancy. With my second I bled right up to 20 weeks. Best of luck to your sister, if the scans are all coming back fine, it looks good :)

I had some pretty severe haemorrhaging with DD, enough to soak through jeans on several occasions and to make me lose consciousness twice. All the way from 6w to 22w. It was a large subchorionic haematoma, though it had apparently resolved by 16w - so not sure why the bleeding continued! Anyway, DD's fine.

I had some bleeding early in this pregnancy, no reason found. Also bleeding this week (25w) - I do have placenta praevia, but they also said I had cervical etropion (the more current term for cervical erosion, apparently - "erosion" got too many women worried that they were falling apart). It's really common in pregnancy.

A friend of mine had bleeding/spotting for several weeks early on and now has 2 gorgeous twin boys.

MiauMau · 18/11/2011 17:38

Had the same thing around the same time for about a month. Went to A&E and had an emergency scan. Was told not to worry unless there was clotting, but each time I saw blood my heart broke a little so, even if all the scans are coming fine just keep an eye on your sister as she's going to need it. I know that I needed all the support available, my DH and best friend were there for me and that really helped.
I'm now 27+3 and all is going great :)

Anonymother · 19/11/2011 19:27

I had a major bleed at 13 weeks. Was horrible but I rested a LOT (kind of against hospital advice - not sure if it helped or not), put my feet up and all was fine. DS is now sleeping soundly next door - a very healthy 2 year old! Also my Mum had the same thing with me (also rested against advice) and I turned out fine!
I was refused a scan which I think was wrong... but did hear heartbeat which was reassuring.
Hope all turns out well for your sister too.

pregnantmimi · 20/11/2011 02:54
