Is this normal antenatal care??

I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd child, I'm having the baby at St marys, Manchester (central), but am attached to the community midwives for south Manchester where I live.

The comms midwives won't start seeing me until week 25 (which I currently am, but can't get an appointment until week 27!).

I've only seen midwives after the 2 scans I've had... So I'll get to week 27 with only seeing a midwife twice... Surely this isn't normal??

With my first pregnancy (last year), my ante natal care was very sparse aswell, with me only seeing a midwife a hand ful of times, maybe six at the most.

It is a low risk pregnancy and I'm not particualy worried about anything, but I was wondering if this level of care is particularly normal????

Yes, I'm pregnant with my second. I've seen them once to book in, then I saw them at 14 weeks, and I'm seeing them again at 20, but only because I've been having problems and they didn't take bloods etc last time.

It was meant to be booking in, 16 weeks and 28 weeks. Plus the two scans, but no midwives at those.

So I think once you're beyond your first antenatal appointments are few and far between.

Snap! I'm also booked in at St Marys, but seeing the community midwife at my GP surgery in Heaton Chapel.

They told me at my first scan to make an appointment with the CMW at 16 weeks. Then I saw the hospital midwife after my 20 week scan and the CMW at 25 weeks. Now I see her every 3 weeks (next one at 31).

I rang my community midwives about a 16week appointment and they told me they wouldn't see me until week 25.... So I asked St marys and they said they couldn't see me at week 16 either!!

I think I've fallen through some loop hole or something!!!!

How useless! Don't worry, all they did at 16 weeks was check urine, BP and listen for the baby's heartbeat. You didn't miss much ;-)

i think the number of appts according to NICE guidelines is something like 4, as a minimum.

personally i wanted as few as possible lol, but it's not good that you're having to wait 2 weeks for an appt, if you need to see a midwife because you're concerned then it's important that you're able to see one,
