i am only 4 weeks pregnant - found out on friday and after 2 miscarriages was really pleased and hopeful - however, yesterday evening - sorry no other way to say this but - had a brown discharge which has continued into today. it hasn't got heavier or lighter just remained - can anyone advise, has anyone else had this ? Obviously i'm really scared that i'm about to miscarry again.

i think its more a concern if you get bright red, fresh blood...not sure what brown means but lots of people get a discharge at the time they would normally get a period so it could be that?? i hhad similiar at 6 wks pregnant...and had baby 2 weeks ago so its not always bad news. hth. take care.

not uncommon - tho do go to docs to chekc it out.
had similar thing a 4 wks.
ds is 15mths and fine
but do get it checked

By "4 weeks" do you mean "2 weeks since conception"? Brown blood is old blood - ie you were bleeding a few days ago and its taken a long time to get to the outside world. Implantation bleed can be about 12 days after conception. So could be that.

I had a bleed that lasted for about a week when I was 5 weeks pregnant. Mostly light and brown with the odd scary clot and bright red bits. All was fine (dd now 17 months ). With some women it takes their body a bit longer to notice they're pregnant...

However I went to the doctor who sent me for a scan because early bleeding can mean an ectopic pregnancy (embryo lodged in fallopian tube - v.rare but GPs are paranoid about it). Your doctor can examine you and tell you that you that your cervix is closed and so you aren't miscarrying (not comfortable but comforting IYSWIM!). A scan would tell you that the embryo is in the right place but they can't tell if it is alive or not until 6 weeks when the heart starts beating.

Phone your doctor and tell the receptionist that you're pregnant and bleeding - they'll get you an appointment straight away. Its worth if to find out quickly whats going on, rather than agonizing for days.

I hope all is well.

the same thing to zerunb happened with me. must be common

daisybob1 · 03/11/2003 21:13

thanks for your messages really helping as i am panicking due to my past history- zerab by 4 weeks i mean since last period so it could be bleeding from implantation - lets hope so - i'll go to the doctors tomorrow to see if he can help but usually he's not that good. the other reason for panick is age - 37. also any ideas on whether sitting with feet up is any use or is it better just to get on with usual stuff ?

If you are very worried daisybob go to your nearest hospital that has a maternity unit and go to casualty - they'll see you anytime if there is bleeding in pregnancy.
Hope everything is fine.

I had bleeding like this as well. My DS is now 6 weeks old. It could be implantation bleeding which is ok(where something sticks to your uterus I think). But you could try phoning your local hosp and finding out if they have an Early Pregnancy Unit. If they have theyll see you for a scan. If your hosp hasn't got one and you could get to it, try another not in your area. It's hard though, for them to see the sac before 6 weeks. I wish you loads of good luck & cyber hugs.

Sorry D/bob have just read your last posting stating about the implantation bleeding. didn't realise you had thought of that.

bunny2 · 04/11/2003 10:05

Hi Daisybob, cant ofer any advice but I wanted to wish you lots of luck with this pregnancy.

fisil · 04/11/2003 18:56

Good luck Daisybob. I had spotting around my periods for the first 3 months and bleeding like you describe at 6 weeks. It was awful. I remember how frightening it was. Fingers crossed.

tinyfeet · 04/11/2003 19:01

Good luck Daisybob. Thinking of you. Can't offer any advice, but good friend had bleeding at 2 months, and it turned out to be nothing. Hope you are getting yourself checked out now.
