i got fibrogel from the docs that seems to work :)

libranlady · 16/11/2011 15:57

Magnesium. I've taken a sachet a day for my whole pregnancy and I really notice it if i've forgotten and missed a day.

sharond101 · 16/11/2011 17:03

There are medicines you can take that help. See you GP or midwife. Lactulose and fybogel are commonly prescribed. Up your fluid intake as this is a main component causing constipation in pregnancy.

Senokot worked for me from the chemist and swimming!

melliebobs · 16/11/2011 18:44

With ur diet increase fibre and your fruit & veg intake

surreyhillsmumtobe · 16/11/2011 18:45

I second prune juice! Try mixing it with orange juice if you don't really like the taste!

bcmummy · 16/11/2011 19:35

Tinned prunes with natural yoghurt is really yummy and has helped me. Also agree with increasing fluid intake - I don't think I was drinking enough water and have now increased that too and feeling much more comfortable!

MangoMonster · 16/11/2011 19:40

Doctor can give you lactulose, very effective and safe for pregnancy.

Tw1nkle · 16/11/2011 19:49

Definately Prunes!!!! I used to have 4 (4 were enough!!) on my shredded Wheat every morning!

Good Luck - I know how hard (excuse the pun) it can be - I eneded up in casualty once....until I discovered Prunes....bliss!!!!

Dalrymps · 16/11/2011 19:52

Yep, prune juice or lactulose are both goodSmile

ManCrushedToDeathByALift · 16/11/2011 19:53

Kiwi fruit. Or prunes, dates or dried apricots.

mrsshears · 16/11/2011 21:01

Thanks everyone

I had'nt realised there was medication i could still take,i don't think my carb's craving is helping matters either.

prune juice is ace

BUT

three pregnancies in and I finally mentioned constipation to my GP and I now take one senna and 4 spoons of lactulose every night and IT'S A REVELATION! YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUFFER ANYMORE! YOU MIGHT NOT GET PILES AFTER ALL! Blush

pinkypig · 17/11/2011 06:14

Lactulose and eat lots of fruit. Drink water, good luck!

Pishtushette · 17/11/2011 06:57

I was going to suggest Lactulose. I remember thinking, at one point, that I would have to go to the hospital for surgical assistance.
