Just had 20 week anomaly scan scan at the fetal medicine centre and it has to be said they were millions better than the sonographer I saw earlier (at Watford General where also had 20 week anomaly scan which showed an abnormality on the lungh see pregnancy thread). Much clearer about everything. There is right lower lob cystic adenomatoid malformation (CAM) with no other obvious structural defects nor markers for chromosomal abnormality. Apparently it is a benign tumour or overdeveloped part of the lung. Has anyone heard or had experience of this ?
She said it was associated with a good prognosis, with 2/3rd of cases the lesion remaining stable in size, in 20% there is shrinkage and in 10% there is progression. We asked about whether or not it would impair the baby's life or health etc and she said no and said it wasn't a major abnormality / reason for termination etc. I guess we just need to research it more and understand what if any impact it will have on the baby's life. We are seeing the conusltant at the NHS hospital tomorrow and then back to the fetal medicine centre to see the professor so he can explain it on Wednesday. Thanks for all your good wishes. It just seems so unreal. With one perfectly healthy dd it never crossed my mind that this one would have problems.
