telling me they were waiting for me at my 28 week blood appointment yesterday and I never showed.

Well, I said, I didn't know I had an appointment since I never received a letter or phone call about it. She said appointment would have come through in a letter. She seemed fine about it and gave me a new date for tomorrow.

I'm a wuss and feel bad about this now. They wasted their time waiting for me probably thinking I just forgot but then, I genuinly didn't know!!! I don't want them to think I'm lying. Has this happened to anyone else????

I'm clearly overthinking this, aren't I?

awh dont worry about it, you didnt recieve any letter - these thisngs happen all the time!
You'll feel better tomorrow after your appointment :)

ImpYCelyn · 15/11/2011 13:12

They won't have been sat there waiting with nothing to do, they'll just have called the next person in. When you still weren't there at the end of clinic they'll have gone home. Very unlikely that they sat around twiddling thumbs and worrying about it.

Don't worry about it. It happens.

nickelbabe · 15/11/2011 13:13

yeah, you're overthinking it!
Of course she believed you when you said you didn't know!

Runpunzel · 15/11/2011 13:17

The exact same thing happened to me and I was worried because my docs has a sign saying miss 3 appts and get struck off Shock so I was really worried that I'd have a black mark against me. I explained I'd never had a letter and they were fine, it was never mentioned again, no worries. Don't worry about it.

I missed an appt around 16 weeks simply because I was a divot and lost the card. I went in and said I don't know when my appt is, is it next Tuesday, and they nicely explained that it had been yesterday but they'd squeeze me in on Tues, though there might be a wait.
The lady even said they were just glad I was OK and still going to receive antenatal care (suspect they have to chase up people who disappear).

In my hospital they book at least a dozen women in at any one time, so no-one staff is ever waiting around.

This has happened to me twice. Other folk have complained to me about it too. It's monumentally annoying bc in my area it is very difficult to see a mw in the 'right' week as they are always booked up- apparently with appointments to which the patient has not been invited! What a waste of everyone's time.
So don't feel bad, it's their fault and happens all the time. But tomorrow do get them to check if they have you down for any other appointments of which you have not been notified...

Thanks everyone. Feeling much better now.

I actually do believe they did send out a letter and the mail lost it. We've been having major problems over the years with disappearing mail, mail being send back because the postman or whoever it is, is to lazy to actually ring the bell and getting other peoples' mail. God knows who received my appoinment letter...Luckily we're moving in 2 weeks time!

Also the rest of my appointments will be back at the GPs surgery where I can actually make them myself. It was just this one (and the next one) that takes place at the hospital as the midwife was too incompetent to take my blood. I'm quite put out by that tbh because firstly, the hospital is quite far away and secondly, the GP says there's nothing wrong with my veins and he can take my blood without any problems. Oh well....

I turned up for my 28 week appointment with DD1 and they said i didnt have an appointment booked.. Til i showed them my notes where THEY had written my appointment in!

I have my 28 week one with this one next week (even though il be 29 weeks :/) so im hoping i get seen :o Grin

buonasera · 16/11/2011 07:37

Same thing happened to me - they phoned me up at my work to ask where I was but no letter had come through. When the next appt letter came it had "2nd appointment" in big letters on the top. I took it in with me and told the receptionist I was glad they'd put that on as a reminder to them not to mess people around by making them appointments and not sending out the letter.

Since then (for other reasons) I've been referred to another hospital... probably just as well as I'm sure they've now got me marked down as an awkward customer! They're right as well.

But I totally get why you'd be p'd off at this - not your fault!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/11/2011 07:41

Happened to me several times this pregnancy. I got one of those phone reminders about an appt the next day which I had never heard of. Similarly, I turned up for my GTT fainting with hunger and clutching the appt letter they'd sent me and they'd never heard of me and were going to tell me to come back next week. Only the fact that I had been fasting for 12 hours and the likelihood that I might slap them got me in that morning!

MiauMau · 16/11/2011 12:12

I just got an automated phone call from the midwife house, had to confirm twice that I'm attending the appointment. Very freaky!

MandaHugNKiss · 16/11/2011 13:20

I wonder what was ever wrong with the system where they would book your next appointment when you attended the previous one... and write it in your notes so you didn't forget!

I wouldn't worry too much (other than worry about the general waste of resources such a system is (additional postage costs are cost efficient how?!)) it's one of those things that will happen, and happen regularly, when they are posting out appointments.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 16/11/2011 16:16

Don't worry about it too much I actually got confused about the time and date and rang the MW who told me then on the day I remembed the date but not the time and had to call and ask the time again.

About an hour later I called as I had forgotton that I had called and they reminded me. MW was nearly wetting herself by the time I got there and said often people forget completly or remember a time or the date. xx
