can anyone remind me of the heartbeta thingy? is it a fast heartbeat likely to mean a girl, or is it a boy??

What's an average of 150 likely to be in MN's experience??

TIA

My MW said it was an old wives tale.

Janh · 03/01/2006 12:01

Either

(Really!)

SoupDragon · 03/01/2006 12:02

It means it's a baby.

Bugsy2 · 03/01/2006 12:03

fast more likely to be a boy & it was definitely true in my case. I've got one of each.

Feistybird · 03/01/2006 12:03

It's definitely.....one or the other.

oliveoil · 03/01/2006 12:03

I was told I was having a boy as the heartbeat was fast.

Dd2 was not a boy.

edodgy · 03/01/2006 12:05

they reckon the faster it is the more likely it is to be a girl my dd's was always around 160 and my ds was 140 beats so worked for me.

munz · 03/01/2006 12:05

mum recons my one has a fast heart and he's a boy apparently (as per scans) - it's also v strong - will tell u in about 8 weeks thou if it's right!

Kelly1978 · 03/01/2006 12:06

I was told galloping horses - girl, train chugging - boy. It's all a load of crap, but the midwife did get it right, a few weeks before I had dd, when I didn't actually want to know the sex.

Enid · 03/01/2006 12:07

hmmm don't know the bpm but this one's heart certianly sounds more 'mellow' than my other babies did - maybe its a boy??

Slow is a boy. DS1's was 140, so slow the mw wondered if it was mine! (errrr, no)
Thomcat had a very fast heartbeat btw adndlok what she got!
150 is average tho.

cupcakes · 03/01/2006 12:09

my midwife told me it was a girl a couple of weeks before delivery due to the fast heart rate. Everyone else thought I was having another boy but she was the only one who was right .
(and me, I knew I was having a girl).

Rach69 · 03/01/2006 18:54

Fast 'resting bpm' is supposed to be girl, slow is boy - no scientific verification at all but loads of mw swear by it and it was true for me 4 times! 150 is probably a girl but remember it is increased when baby is moving.

Simplyred · 03/01/2006 21:21

In my limited experience-
Over 160 a girl

140 or below a boy - 150 could be either.

Wills · 03/01/2006 21:25

Both my girls were around 155. But at my last visit with my gp she listened to little one's heartbeat (around 140) and promptly said "Oh, you've got a little boy in there this time then". I'm going for my 20 weeks scan on Thursday (wish me luck cos the 12 week nuchal scan was not clear) and I'm hoping to find out then.

coppertop · 03/01/2006 21:46

Ds1 and ds2 both had a heart-rate of about 150.

cori · 03/01/2006 21:47

I am currently pregnant. Heartbeat is consitently 150 and I am having a boy.

eidsvold · 04/01/2006 08:15

my dd2 had whatever it was for a boy consistently - so much so that the Gp asked me if I knew what the old wives tale was - so we both looked it up and at my next antenatal appt checked the heartbeat again - still the same... and babe was a girl.

allycotownofbethlehem · 04/01/2006 10:11

need to know for friend who has scan today - my bet's a girl!

It's meant to be fast heartbeat is girl and slower is boy. But DS always had a fast heartbeat and DD a slow heartbeat (day before she was born the mw was sure she'd be a boy) and so I don't believe it
