hi i'm 37 weeks and starting to find it uncomfortable to pee. I'm constantly feeling the need to go but finding it quite uncomfortable and not really feeling like i'm properly emptying my bladder iyswim. i had a mw app last thurs where she tested my urine and said nothing so assume it was fine then. Could it have develpoed that quickly. I also seem to have a knotting pain in my pelvis area.
Any ideas?
thanks

by the way, i have had a kidney infection in the past which completely bypassed the pain when weeing stage and went straight to full blown agony. I was on pethidine! not sure if history means anything?

Hi blushingbaby it sounds similer to the symptoms I had last week and it turned out to be UTI and I was prescribe Amoxacilin (SP) and it worked wonders. Go and get it checked as it really needs to be treated quickly during pregnancy. I too have a history of kidney infections and stones which helped the Dr make a quicker diagnosis. xx

thanks, have just phoned mw who said to call gp, who said no apps available till next wk! So very useful! not sure i want to ask but is it as much of a problem at this late stage of preg. i know that if you get it earlier it can cause premature labour??? but what happens if i have it now? I'm supposed to be having a sweep on monday!

Hi if Gp surgery have no appointments till next week you could either go to your nearest walk-in centre or go to the out of hours service (we access ours by phoning surgery number after they closed and get put through) - both can test urine or send it off to a lab to test if they want more testing done and do prescriptions.

Or call hospital's pregnancy assessment unit/whatever number you have on your notes tomorrow and tell them you think you have a UTI, midwife told you to contact gp and no gp appointments for 5 days .... someone somewhere will have to act then!!

thanks, will try gps again in the morning and try to explain the situation, if i get no joy i'll phone mw again.
will it cause problems for sweep/ labour?

Get some lemon barley water and drink it - it helps to flush the system out. It won't cure a full-on infection but will help to prevent one and as I said - flush your waterworks out.

Most GP surgeries have a nurse who is able to test for Uti's and so can your midwife.

Definitely sounds like a UTI. You should be able to drop in a sample to your GP or midwife without having to get an appointment, so that the sample can be cultured. Insist on it. The test strip thing they do at antenatal appointments does not always pick a UTI up.

morning, have managed to get a gp app for this evening be being a bit persistant that just because I wasn't dying/dead it was still quite important.
I felt convinced my waters were going to break last night as the whole area 'down there' feels under so much pressure, like it's going to explode!
