DC2 - new mattress for Moses basket?

Hi ladies,

There will be 15 months between DC1 and DC2. Planning to re-use Moses basket and bedding, etc. Question is, do I need to replace the mattress? DC1 only used it for 15 weeks, and the basket has since been stored in a cool, dry room ever since. Never got wet/stained etc.

Instinct says it'll be fine to re-use the mattress, but does anyone know of guidelines that suggest otherwise?

Thanks

I think guidelines are new mattress for each baby but not sure. I'm getting a new one for the carrycot for dc2, Ds slept in it til 5months and the mattress is slightly curved now so decided a new one will
give better support. Depends on condition of mattress I think!

Mattress is pretty much like new lindsell! Thanks for your reply.

Anyone else got an opinion?!

Official guidelines suggest a new mattress for each child but that it's not so important amongst siblings (not sure of the reasoning but I'm sure i read some research on this when I was pregnant) my daughter used the same mattress as my niece - there were no visible problems with the mattress so we used it and it was fine.

I think I would re-use, if I had kept mine (sold as didn't have storage space at the time!)

I wouldn't reuse a mattress that had signs of wear or that had been stored anywhere damp / chilly as I think mould spores etc would present a bit of a risk.

Like many aspects of pregnancy/ parentingI think it's probably down to you to decide where to draw the line!
