Hi,

Just wondering if this is normal we are 15weeks + 4 days and so far I have only gained about 5lbs. I would have thought by now heading towards to the half way mark I should have gained at least a stone.

I have a big bump to say the least. MW said it is partly down to how big you are before becoming pg and that I will catch up with myself. I am just worried as there is a woman at work who is 8 weeks ahead of me and has gained more weight and yet has a smaller bump.

People at work are amazed at how big I am already but worried that I must be doing something wrong not to be gaining weight. MW says baby is fine and at our 12 week scan baby was the right size at 5cm.

Have you been sick at all? I was so poorly with DD1 that I barely gained until 20 weeks.

Fear not, you baby gets 'first shout' at any nutrition in your body, so its not the baby that'll go without.

If your midwife isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either, I know - easier said than done!

kdiddy · 10/11/2011 12:36

I didn't put any weight on until about 22 weeks, and it's been steadily increasing since then! I did have bigger boobs + stomach though so I put it down to possibly losing pre-baby weight (healthier eating, not drinking etc!) whilst putting on baby weight - so it evened itself out if that makes sense?

I think it's really individual - bump size and weight can be determined by so many things - height, health, genetics etc. - and if your midwife has said the baby is growing fine then that's the most important thing!

Flisspaps · 10/11/2011 12:39

I've gained no weight so far (19 weeks) and discovered that I have gone down a bra size.

It is only recently that my appetite has returned, and even now, it's not what it was. The reduction in alcohol has probably helped somewhat.

On the plus side, I was carrying excess weight to begin with, so it's not like I couldn't have done with losing some of it! As Rrrrayray says, baby gets first dibs at any nutrition, I've been taking a vitamin supplement and Spatone just to make sure I get at least the basics!

If the scan says LO's ok, and you're not in a low BMI catagory, anemic, dizzy or otherwise feeling any more shite than your MW's happy with then do not worry. OK, I say this and have a small panic every now and then.
Currently 30wks and weight has varied a little from a 6lb loss to a 3lb gain, but am currently 2lb down on pre-pg weight, having been in the 'overweight' BMI (27) on booking. As long as my sugars, iron and the likes are fine, and I'm eating healthily and have no hypermesis then then I've been told to ignore it. LO will be stealing all she needs and as long as I am eating (not always easy as if tired I'm sicking everything up, like lastnight), resting and being kind to myself, then they aren't worried. Woke up feeling totally rough today (another bout of headache with flashing lights - not going in for another pre-eclampsia check unless I get worse, migraine diagnosis) so phoned in sick Confused
I'm a shortie and got utterly fed up with people telling me how massive bump is (have a manager pg with twins, about 8wks behind me and she's only recently got a decent bump) . LO's measurining 60th centile. I just ignore them now, or do the "are you saying you think there's something wrong with my baby?" line. Soon shuts them up.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/11/2011 12:43

Thanks ladies. I'm just a bit freaked as it is our first and I feel very protective of my bump and want to make sure that I am doing everything I can to give this little one the best possible start.

Rrrrayray I managed to navigate actually being sick there were pleanty of days with feelings of nausea. This little one tells mummy what it does and does not like already. LOL. Smile

kdiddy the midwife said the same thing about build and apparently because I was tall and "too" slim falling pg it is showing quicker than if I had been a little bigger to begin with. Same here with the boobs not to sure where they have come from but DP likes them Wink

No, i didn't gain much weight at all until the middle of the 2nd trimester (about 20 weeks, i think)
5 lbs by week 15 sounds about what I put on.

nickelbabe · 10/11/2011 12:46

(i did get bigger in that time, just wasn't heavier iyswim - had to wear baggier clothes and had a "is she fat or pregnant?" tummy Grin )

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/11/2011 13:08

Thanks, I am feeling less stressed about the lack of weight gain. I need to chill out more.

Perhaps a bell for DP when "bump"Wink wants chocolate and monster munch.

Hi Yummymummy!

Try not to stress! I'm a little behind you, just coming up to 14wks, but I've hardly put anything on yet. Only a lb or so if anything! And I'm not carrying any excess weight (technically underweight!), so it's a bit worrying.

That said, my midwife and the sonographer haven't expressed any worries. All I'm doing differently is making a more concerted effort to eat more - not over eating, but making sure I snack on something whenever I feel hungry. And I'm making sure it's not all fruit/madly madly healthy - things like flapjacks, cereal bars and healthier crisps - just to try and up my calorie intake a bit. I think I need it for energy anyway at the moment- feeling so exhausted constantly!

PlinkertyPlonk · 10/11/2011 17:29

If you are eating healthily and feeling fine, then all sounds good. I'd only put on a couple of pounds by 16wks (my BMI at booking in was 21). Currently 19 weeks and finally struggling to do my jeans up, but no scales in the house to weigh myself. But still barely filling an A cup bra :(

melliebobs · 10/11/2011 17:29

I'm 25+4 and lost 6lb in the first 3-4 weeks. And I'm only just back to the weight I started at. I don't have a visible bump but midwife seems happy. Everyone different and grows at different stages so as long as the health care professional is happy I don't suppose it matters

PamSco · 10/11/2011 17:35

Hey Yummy don't stress - any recommended wait gains work on averages and you are right it depends where you start.

I'm 39+5 and am currently 2lb lighter than my last pre-pregnancy weighing. I started off over weight and lost weight with the no booze and sensible eating plus some sickness issues. I put nothing on in the first trimester and was really stressed. It isn't worth worrying about if your scans aren't bringing up any issues. It has worked out cheap - no maternity clothes required to date, just a few a-line tops and my biggest pre-pregnancy jeans!

Oeisha · 10/11/2011 19:29

pam yeah, still in my pre-pg clothess to. Work trousers I now have to wear a bump band with, but the next size up fall of my hips. Unwisely purchased 2 pairs of jeans from next at about 14wks. I do have a very out front bump, so do now need some extra space there as flies won't do up properly. But otherwise home stuff - the waists still fit and stuff falls of my hips. Basically, don't buy until you need to.

blueeyedmonster · 10/11/2011 20:29

I am trying not to worry about this. With ds I out on over 3st total.

This time at 30wks I have put on a grand total of 11lb. I'm not quite sure how either. I do know I lost 3lb to start with as I didn't really want to eat for the first 12wks or so. Since then that's all i've put on though.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/11/2011 22:36

Thank you all. spoke with my DP toady and he has said the same thing not to worrry as the MW would have mentioned anything if we needed to worry.

I have to remember as long as bump is healthy then nothing else really matters.

xx

Hiya - just to say my midwife gave me some great advice at my last visit when I was stressing about my lack of bump and weight gain:

"We are all different sizes and shapes pre-pregnancy, so why suddenly everyone expects to be the same size by a certain stage is a mystery to me!"

I'm currently 31 weeks and have gained about 10lbs since my booking in appt. But I know of friends who have already gained 3st by the same stage!

Please try not to worry and always speak to your midwife if you are concerned - they really are there to help and advise.

MrBloomsNursery · 10/11/2011 23:01

I haven't put on hardly any weight since I got pregnant...probably around 2.5kg at the most and I'm nearly 32 weeks now. The MW didn't seem concerned and neither am I, because I was actually heavier when I got pregnant this time, so I think my body is just equiliberating.

The baby takes all your nutrients anyway, so he/she is fine either way. I think you may need to take care of yourself after birth though, and build up your energy and nutrient stores with supplements and eating the right foods.

DianaXXX · 11/11/2011 00:13

In my first trimester I lost weight due to being sick all the time and no appetite but not too worry now that I'm 25 weeks I have put on 10kg!!!! And the max recommended is 13 through the pregnancy and u still have 15 weeks to go lol Blush

bmm39 · 11/11/2011 11:33

I shouldn't worry I am all bump too. In fact I have probably lost weight everywhere else. I am 25 weeks now. Midwife has not mentioned anything and my baby appears to be developing well. It all goes on your body shape. Relax and enjoy looking great. x

Yummymummyyobe1 · 11/11/2011 11:53

It is offical the bump has taken over from behind I don' look pregnant in profile bump is huge.

To be fair I am loving my ever changing shape and it seems to change all most daily. Boobs check,, not to sure where they have come from B to a DD although DP not complaing Wink . Bump out there Grin

I am not jumping the scales as it freaks me out too much with every flucuation. I was slightly under weight becoming Pg but the small gain has made all the difference.
