We're going to the local homebirth group in our area tonight where there will be the opportunity to ask questions to an independet midwife and also others who have had homebirths in the area. I'm racking my brains trying to think of questions to ask. I want to find out a bit more about having a pool and if it's worth it and what to do with it etc, but can't think of much else to ask. Hopefully DH will have some questions. Would anyone like to share any questions they would ask?

I'm hopefully having a homebirth. The things I have asked are what the window of opportunity I.e will they still let you have one at 40 +14. what pain relief can you have if you decide you want some, last time i asked for gas and air at home they weren't very forthcoming. Who usually attends I'd how many mws.

Hi! I had a homebirth with DC3,was fantastic!

Things I asked were:

At what point do I need to call you? (as I wondered how much time they needed to get to me)

What items do I need to provide? (they should give you a list at some point but its worth knowing in advance)

Can my children stay at home (may not be relevant, unless you adapt it if you want someone else with you as well as DH)

What happens if you are attending other births and there are no midwives available? (My midwives worked out how many women were due around the same time and wanted homebirths and whilst its not guaranteed were able to say that it wouldnt be a problem which made me feel more confident.)

Do you bring the G&A with you or is it delivered beforehand, and what about the other equipment (Birth Pack)?

Can you get more G&A quickly if needed?

Think they were the main things I wanted to know, good luck! Grin

Pain relief, what happens if something goes wrong with you or baby, mess, transferring into hospital if you want pain relief, "equipment" you/MW provides. Any concrete reasons not to have a HB, what to do if you're put off having a HB, rights to a HB.
